I left earlier and when I returned the was a dead kitten in my driveway, it was layed out as if it had been placed where it was purposally but there was also a mud puddle about 10 feet away that was full of blood..(if it helps I live in Maine) I want to know what animal would do this? someone said an Owl, or an Eagle, someone elce said a fox...but anyways my father took the kitten out back and burried it, so the kids that live next door wouldnt see it

for those of you that are asking, the kitten went outside with its mother, and older sister, my cats go outside to the bathroom, and they play right around the door step, they hardly ever leave the dooryard..... I also do have a male cat "cocoa" who I havnt seen in about 2months, when I was leaving this morning he came in through the door, stayed about 5 minutes long enough for me to pat him, and to eat and then he left... there are kids in my neighborhood that would do that, but the way they kill cats isnt how mine was killed, the people Im thinking of like to hold adult cats down and beat them in the head with rocks, and torture them.....they've been arrested for this in the past

There are a number of things that could have killed your kitten since it was outside. Since there was blood, that would rule out most diseases. Whatever it was, the kitten deserved better than that. Since it's buried, it's a little late to take it and have a vet tell you for sure.

In my opinion, I think the kitten was part of foul play, possibly a fox, an adult cat, or any animal that lives around you. It has said to be, that sometimes adult cats (mostly males) kill kittens if in sight. I once had an experience, where one of my cats gave birth to kittens in my backyard, and I had many stray cats in my neighborhood at the time. So the next day, I went by my backyard and found all the kittens dead, full of blood, and I found one of the stray cats, licking their paws that had blood all of it.. so I figured it killed it. I hope you find out the reason of death, good-luck!

The kitten could have possib;y been in the engine compartment of your car, they will climb up there for shelter and to keep warm. Unfortunately when the engine is started they are often sucked into the fan and killed this way, that may explain the puddle with blood in it so far from the kitten. I am sorry to tell you the gorey details but its another reason why cat owners should keep their cats inside. I have had the misfortune to have this happen to me, so now I bang on my hood to scare any strays that might be in there.

There really is no way to tell what killed the kitten with the info you gave. I can however say that chances are it was not a bird of prey... when they take kills they either fly away with it or eat it where it falls. Plus you would have been able to tell it was a bird by the shape of kitten.
Overall it could have been a handful of things... the mother cat, a dog, a coon, fox, mink, kids, adults.... the list goes on and on.

If there is a new tomcat in your area, he will kill any kittens he can find to make the females come back into heat earlier. This gives him more chances to breed and produce his own offspring. No way to know for sure, but it sounds like a cat kill to me. A fox or owl or eagle would have eaten it.

Why did you let your kitten outside? I'm not looking to blame you but i'm just wondering why you chose to let it be outdoors at all? these days cats (and the birds they go after) are not safe outdoors. If you love them keep them inside and free from fleas and ticks etc. as well as wild animals.
this was a hard lesson for you to learn and you weren't even the one who had to pay the ultimate price, the kitten did.
Next pet- keep indoors and take care of them.
This sucks but learn from it so the kitten didn't die for nothing.
And- maybe the kids next door had something to do with it? How much do you trust them> Jeffrey Dahmer got started that way remember...

it might have gotten hit by a car and whoever did it felt bad so they just left it there.
Foxes would be the most probable of those animals but I'm not sure. Sorry about your kitten but at least know that it was quick.
p.s. other animals would have eaten/taken the kitten away to eat it unless it was a wild male cat.

any wild animal would have taken the kitten and ate it they only kill to eat not just to kill, it either was hit by a caR, killed by a domestic dog, then crawled away on to your drivew way , or may be ther e are some crule kids in your neighbor hood that harmed the kitten !!

turn about is fair play????what kind of sicko are you, edgar???? if i didnt know better i would say u were her neighbor and the one who killed the kitten....with a comment like that!!!!get help man!!!
i would be more inclined to say human killer, not animal...animal would not take the time to lay the body out...they would take it and eat it. or if not eat it it would be so badly mauled u wouldnt be able to tell it was a kitten.

Start carrying a knife around hun......could be some sick *** trying to freak you out? An eagle or hawk would have taken it away, and if someone ran over it why the puddle full of blood10 feet away? You may need to set up CCTV around your property.
