I'm a healthy guy. I exercise 3-4 times a week, I eat right, and all that fun stuff. I would not define myself as a sickly person. But, whenever I go in someone's pool (public or otherwise) or in the pond at my grandfather's ranch or at the beach, I get a cough, a cold, or the flu! I can't stand it. Is it just some weird fluke with germs or something? Does it have something to do with the temperature? Do I have a medical condition or something? What precautions can I take to prevent catching this stuff when I go swimming?

Im wondering if you have an allergy to something in the water. This is puzzling tho, cuz you said you've been in pools and ponds.

Are you swallowing water when you swim? Do your ears ache?

Perhaps getting some earplugs might help. Also, try to figure out how you are breathing when you go underwater. If you are somehow swallowing water, even on a small level, you may get sick.

Next time you go swimming, try not to go underwater. See if you still get sick. If you do, there has got to be an agent that you are allergic to.

I will research more and see what i can come up with,,,

Ive only heard of people getting sick when they are allergic or sensitive to something in the water......

My daughter is the same way - we find that it is more likely to happen when she swallows the water... my guess is you guys have some sort of an allergic reaction to the chemicals used. Although you mentioned it happens at the pond too.. hm. My two cents would be to try and shower with water before you enter, then shower with soap right after you get out... might help.
