Well, you really cant. You could try getting ahold of one of the many beta versions to try but MS has made it that now all the beta and RC's only log in for up to 2 hours then shut down. Also, the betas are very unstable and I wouldn't reccomend installing any betas on a good computer. Best thing is to find someone in your area that already has the retail Vista or you could go to your local computer store and they might have a demo computer with Vista on it. This would give you an idea on how Vista is. Then you can make the choice of whether you want to buy the retail version or not.

No official one, but if you can get a Vista CD/DVD from anyone, it will allow you to install and give you 30 days before it dies.

You would be stupid to do that. If you read the entries on this site you'll find that the biggest problem is going back once it expires.
