as a Navy SWO.. ooh lets see.. you could be a dozen different things. Start off as oh, say CIC watch Officer or Main Propulsion Assistant. Then you'd move up to Combat or Weapons. Then , possibly a depart head position, on two different ships.. and two different departments.. say Combat and then Engineering. and then a Staff job working for the Admiral. then you could screen for XO and then CO.
Many first term JOs end up being shifted form division to divison a lot in their first two years..seeing as how that's when they have to get Qual'd by.

the possibilities are are endless. There is the good old delegation of authority. You could be in charge of a mess hall or in charge of warehouse. In charge of 20 people or 2,000.
