I mean US polotics. It's like poloticians are afraid of talking about or dicussing their faith, or beliefs. Why is this? ... and why does it matter so much?

I just think these poloticians can be more open about religion and/or spirituality. Europeans discuss religion in their polotics all the damn time, so why can't America. And i'd like more of an answer than "Well, we're not Europe".

Because there is an element of the dominant media and certain anti- God organizations that dont like judgements made about other peoples behavior, (judgements based in any religion or any moral system of beliefs, i.e. decency standards, alchohol and drug use to name a few). Christanity is also ridiculed by those same people and they get a free pass by the rest of the media, and thus say whatever they want without repercussions. Remember how John Ashcroft was ridiculed for his faith and GASP!! praying before work everyday. How dare he !!! Yet Hillary Clinton and John Edwards talk about their faith (the first time that I can rememeber that happening) and nothing derogatory is said about them.

Religion is a matter of opinion and has wildly diverging effects on how people regard and treat the world around them. If a politician talks too much about their brand of faith, they will find entire sections of their base disagreeing with and abandoning them purely on that basis. Saying something that might draw applause in Utah would get them booed (or worse) in Alabama.
And for a little something from my own perspective: Would you want a Tim LaHaye or Lou Dobbs in the Oval Office?

Because in the USA, the mass media and the Liberals control the education systems and all the high places.
They have the platform to outshout all truth and righteousness down, so that their brand of liberal life-style will be seen as the only "right" one to live by.
By your asking that question you are already sold to their idea.
Speaking from Singapore- not a US citizen.
Tell me I am wrong for seeing what is right in you fast decaying society and as a great nation.
I give USA 2 to 3 decades maybe even sooner as the next election will bring in the Democrats and worse if it's a woman head which will bring the nation down to her knees sooner than later can be a foregone conclusion.
Harsh word you may say, but I see it from a distance and are quite objective about it. Just my trwo cents worth of opinion, take it or lump it !

It's because the policticians are trying to appeal to coalitions of very religious people without losing the vote of people who do not share their religion. Religion is a sensitive issue in the US in general (I don't know about Europe), and many people are quick to judge or take offense based on what someone says about religious beliefs, so politicians tend to feel they are safer not mentioning religion at all.

It's all about the dollars! Don't mention your religion and thereby not publicly picking the wrong religion thereby not losing certain religious voting dollars, donations. Because some religions or church leaders also use politics to gain in power and with power comes their money.

That could be b/c there are so many people that have different opinions on the subject and some people get emotional of the subject. They could offend someone and not know it so they are careful to what they talk about and how.

it's a good way to lose votes because ur candidates could be a certain religion and words can always be interpreted in many ways, even if they mean no harm. ppl easily blow things out of proportion and when talkin abt faith because usually when talkin abt faith, it brings up more and more topics. an easy way to avoid that whole situation is to just not bring it up, i guess...idk for SURE

because they're competing to be are leaders. nobody wants a leader from another religion because they don't want different views forced apon them. church and state aren't supposed to mix but recently it just keeps mixing together.
same reason all are presidents have been white males, but this next election should be an interesting one.

because many americans dont want someones religous beliefs to dictate the laws they make. not everyone has the values and it is important to make legislation that can benefit ALL americans, not just some.
i mean look at president Bush- his policies on abortion and homosexuality seem to be driven by religious views but not everyone benefits from what he wants to do.

That's just the thing...religion should not be included in politics at all. Separation of church and state.
