This has happened to me too for about 10 years now. At first, I would try to prove that I wasn't making it up, but now I realize that gift or not, it is a useful tool in giving some insight into life and I don't have to prove anything to anyone but myself. Take note of the themes of less literal dreams and how they correlate to your life. If you really cannot handle the dreams right now, you could try meditating and focusing on not remembering your dreams right before bed, but if your subconscious is allowing you to dream these dreams and flashes of the future, then perhaps they will be beneficial to you. The benefits are not always immediately clear. Good luck.

OK, maybe the first step is to determine if you are really dreaming the future, or if you are just making really, really good guesses while in the dream state. Keep a log of your dreams when you get up. Then, on one of the minor dreams, do something different. Say that you dream you bought mint gum -- deliberately buy cinnamon gum.
My bet is that you are really just making good guesses, or that you are experiencing deja vu -- which is where the brain kind of hiccups and repeats the last few minutes of your life. You can't tell where it came from, so you think it's a dream.
If they are just good guesses, then you can deal with it by ignoring it, or taking advantage of it.
If, however, you are dreaming of an unchangeable future, that's downright scary! Talk to a doctor about medication that suppresses dreaming. There must be something available. Check with the local universities for sleep labs, and they may be able to help you better than a GP.

I went through a period when I would have bad dreams that basically came true that same day. It was terrible. Sometimes it would have to do with lottery numbers and other times it would be about death and bad events. It was like I had no one to help me. I kept praying to God to take away the dreams, because I was becoming afraid to go to sleep at night. Finally they went away, and I was so relieved. That was years ago.
Since then I have occasionally had dreams, but many of them are more spiritual - like they come from God, they inspire me to have faith. I find now that when I have that rare dream that seems prophetic about some bad event, I can pray about it, and it affects the outcome.
I would say to you, despite these bad dreams, have faith in God. Ask him to take them away, because it is more than any human should handle. Also pray for the best and trust in Christ Jesus to keep you.

medication usually makes dreams weirder and more often. you're dreams are a gift. some people don't dream at all and if they do they are meaningless. use your dreams to understand situations and how you can make a better outcome out of the circumstances that happen. some people can even change dreams to what they want to see. i think that even though you think they are a burden right now, that someday your dreams will benefit you in a huge way. i see my dreams as an escape, a chance to experience weird and wild things that could never take place in the waking world. most of my dreams are bad but i have learned that dreams usually mean the opposite of what they portray. i hope you learn to love your gift and can learn to use these visions to your advantage.

i have a similar problem, although mine might be a little different. I have had dreams about bad things happening, like people dieing. People close to me like family and some i have never even met, but then saw their obituaries a few weeks later. It started a few months ago. Not sure if you can stop it, or possibly control it, but keeping a sort of journal can help you remember and see if your dreams do happen. Don't know how to help but just wanted to let you know that I'm in the same sort of situation.

You dreams come from your unconcious mind and usually they do have a connection to our real life but not in the straight forward way that we think. For example death in a dream is supposed to mean the end of something, the end of a career, friendship, anything really. If you dream of being pregnant or having a baby it can mean that you n e e d to pay attention to your own needs, your taking on too much of someone elses responsibility, or subconciously you want kids. The best thing to do is go online or buy a dream dictionary book. Make a journal of all your dreams, write them down as soon as they happen and try to analize them though the dream. If you are having a reacurring dream that you want to get rid of you need to figure out what it means, ie dream dictionary and try to resolve the issue that the dream is referring to.

Nothing distracts you more than your own very thoughts. I believe, what we see in our dreams sometimes is merely a picture of what we have thought or had been thinking for a very long time. If you are sad, depression will follow and bad thoughts will make rounds through your mind. In fact, your bad thoughts are something which make you feel depressed. Now, that is your wrong way of thinking which often leads to nightmares or upsetting dreams. You can change it by thinking good, something positive which doesn't pressurise your mind. Thinking good would automatically make you feel good and hence you will tend to see more of good dreams. I feel, A happy state of mind attracts positivity from surroundings and does everything around him/her actively and whole-heartedly and when mind is at peace, then I guess, question of seeing upsetting dreams doesn't arise. Because then you sleep in happy mood too. Sometimes, we see nightmares despite feeling happy too but that happens in rare cases. Most of the time, it is because when we think bad, we see bad in our dreams. I am saying this from personal experience. I have often noticed that when I feel bad, my thoughts are something which make me feel like that. And many times, what I had been thinking was something I saw in my dreams..just a picture of my thoughts and that made me more upset but then I also noticed that it is not that difficult to change your thinking too. When you feel happy, everything good happens around you and hence you get a 'good night's sleep'. ~Smile :)

Do you have schizophrenia, bipolar, or something related? Cause you were talking about medication. I have these types of dreams and I always try to stop them but if you get the same one three times after the third time its going to happen or it is happening. The ones that are realistic and weird are usually the ones that are going to happen. Some that are too basic usually won't happen and sometimes it may take years.
