I'm 14 years old, 5'4" and 113 pounds. I wish i was 105.
For the past couple days, I have been eating no more than 500 calories every day. Am I anorexic? My mom had anorexia when she was my age, so maybe it's like genetic because it's a mental disorder... I think I might have it, I'm really not sure! I'm not skinny, but I think i'm on the verge! I like losing all this weight (i've lost 2 pounds in 5 days) but i'm kind of scared because I dont want to just randomly drop dead..

Trust me, your 14. You don't need to worry about your weight. If your concerned about your weight, eat healthier. Exercise a bit more. TALK TO YOUR MOM ABOUT IT! Don't eat under 500 calories. Baddddd!!!! You have to eat 1,200 cal. to gain a pound. My best friend's sister ate only a bit of breakfast, no lunch, no dinner. She went to a hospital for 3 weeks! She was really sick. Thats what happened because she turned anorexic. You don't sound fat, and your not. Trust me. Just eat normal again but eat healthier foods.

I don't think youre anorexic if youve been doing this for only a couple of days. Let me give you some advice from someone who started out with anorexia asking the same question after a couple of days. Don't look for an eating disorder. I know it may sound strange but I wanted to be thinner and I also wanted something to be wrong and people to notice that I wasn't ok to start with. And hey why not get thin in the mean time. I don't know much about you at all to say that this is your situation, and yes, eating disorders can be genetic, but if you think you can stop this then do so. Just go for a walk or switch snacks for apples or rice cakes. Don't eat that few calories. It can mess you up and eventually your metabolism will slow and you will regain weight. And once your metabolism goes down it will never go up to its peak again. Also, your body has a lot of developing to do and this could cause serious problems. Getting bigger as you get older is hard but if you think you need to talk to someone do it asap.

Anorexia is an eating disorder where people starve themselves. Anorexia usually begins in young people around the onset of puberty. Individuals suffering from anorexia have extreme weight loss. Weight loss is usually 15% below the person's normal body weight. People suffering from anorexia are very skinny but are convinced that they are overweight. Weight loss is obtained by many ways. Some of the common techniques used are excessive exercise, intake of laxatives and not eating. Anorexics have an intense fear of becoming fat. Their dieting habits develop from this fear. Anorexia mainly affects adolescent girls.People with anorexia continue to think they are overweight even after they become extremely thin, are very ill or near death. Often they will develop strange eating habits such as refusing to eat in front of other people. Sometimes the individuals will prepare big meals for others while refusing to eat any of it.The disorder is thought to be most common among people of higher socioeconomic classes and people involved in activities where thinness is especially looked upon, such as dancing, theater, and distance running.

As stated above it is a eating disorder and I know it is not a genetic disorder and can't be passed on from parent to child. Losing 2 pounds in 5 days is nothing. It could be water weight or even excreation of waste from your body. Even a loss of 2 pounds in 1 day is very common and should not be thought as a eating disorder. Although you do eat small amounts you should get help and start to eat at least 1500 calories a day . You also seem ok and probably do not throw up your food to get rid of it so you are normal to a point. There are many people that are 14 years old and around your hight and weight. All you should do is eat more calories and if you really feel like your gaining too much weight, work out and do not decrease your food intake or throw it up. So you don't have to worry about losing 2 pounds in 5 days because you could lose 3 pounds and it could simpily be water weight or waste from your body. I hope you will be fine and try to eat more. Personaly i think you are slightly a bit paranoid of being like your mother but it is alright because you show almost no signs of being anorexic and you just seem a bit nervous about your body. All i can say is i hope you eat more, lose weight in a proper way like exercising and you do not drop dead. =)

It doesn't sound like you're anorexic. Yet. But I would say you need some help. I'm a little shorter than you and weigh about as much and I know I'm not anorexic. However, by wanting to be thinner, and by trying to be thinner, you're certainly on your way.
You should be eating more than 500 calories a day. I think the average diet is, what, 2000 calories daily? Someone else would know.
My suggestion would be to not count calories or weigh yourself too often. 3 meals a day. Carbs, protein, fruits, veggies, dairy. Exercise. You don't need to shoot for any weight goal or have a diet plan to stay fit and be healthy. Just take care of yourself and enjoy life.
And don't worry, most anorexics don't just drop dead randomly. They usually lose their breath and get very weak and fragile over time. If you were that unhealthy you wouldn't be asking; you'd know.

Well first of all, anorexia is not necessarily a mental illness, it is more a problem with body imagine. You must ask yourself several questions, why are you wanting to lose weight, is your wt goal healthy and realistic, 500 calories is restricting and is not healthy for anyone, you cannot possibly get all the nutrients your body needs for your age and health at that caloric intake. Do you purge, if you feel you ate too much? My recommendation is to see your primary MD for a physical evaluation, and if you are having serious issues with food get some help and or information, Anorexia Nervosia is a serious problem...but there is help, before it gets out of control. Here is a web site to get info, or help or to learn more. Wishing you the best and good health. www.renfrewcenter.com

I was anorexic and you sound like you are but the only one who can tell you you are is a good therapist. I went from 137 pd to 97 pds in 2 months. I ate only a handful of cereal a day . I managed, how I have no idea, to live, But I was unhealthy and people started to say I losing too much and my fols made me go to the doctor. I found out a lot of things about the eating disorder. You should look it up on the web & read about it & truely see a doctor. You could get really sick or have a heart attack. Please take my advise it's not healthy to starve yourself because you "see" fat. Eat more healthy foods & good luck !!!

You might be, since you eat only 500 calories daily. You do know that you will only gain weight don't you? because by just eating 500 calories daily your metabolism slows down dramatically to conserve energy.

Your weight seem perfectly normal, I weigh less than you and i'm not anorexic. Although I need to gain about 5 lbs.

I don't believe it is genetic. Others disagree but I believe that the figure is genetic. The figure is the part that dictates the self esteem and the self esteem dictates whether or not you become anorexic. So you know, anorexia doesn't just happen. You contribute a little. You don't wan't to be anorexic, don't be anorexic. Eat normally for gods sakes. It's not that hard. If you want to be anorexic, you will.
