my girls (ages 8&9) have been asking me for a sandbox, today our neighbor down the road put one of those turtle shaped ones out for free, I looked it over and it is still good and she said I could have it, I called my dad and told him about it cause he knows where to get some sand for free and he said I should'nt have gotten it cause the girls are too old to be playing in a sandbox, I don't think they are, what is your opinion?

They are 8 and 9 years old. When I was that age I loved sandboxes and swings. Go for it, it's better than having them grow up to fast and miss out on their childhood. If they want it go for it. Eventually they will grow out of it and move on but for now they want to be kids.

I have a 9 year old and a 7 year old and I think they are just right for playing in a sandbox. They need to stay kids as long as they can. These days there is so much out there to make kids grow up too fast. If the kids want a sandbox then by all means get them one. Let them be kids.

I love to play with my kids in the sandbox or the beach. I do not think you are ever too old. Look up pictures of sand sculpture contests. They will think this is cool. If he is anything like my dad he was tired at the time you asked him. He will see! My dad bought sand to level his yard and he could not get my kids, 12, 10 , 8, and 7 to get out of the sand pile on his driveway.

Pff, I'm 22 and I still enjoy playing in the sandbox any chance I get- I'll bring my sister to the park and build sand castles with her or take the kids I work with and build with them.

Honestly, people put ages on things.. They decide since they feel embarrassed to be doing something passed a certain age, that it's not ok for anyone to do so.

You know, usually smaller kids play in those, but if your girls want it, get it for them! It is free, and they will play and play in for probably WEEKS. They will love it and they will love THEIR MOMMY for getting them something so wonderful. They can put water in it and build sandcastles and make roads and things that smaller kids would never be able to do. THey can hide small items in there for each other then 'dig for buried treasure.'

There will not be a lot of times in your kids' lives when you can make them happy for so little effort, so I'd say DO IT!

My kids are a LOT older than yours, and we live in an area with non-sandy beaches, and boy are they disappointed that there is no sand!

Cherish that your lil girls want a sandbox - their wants will get bigger and more expensive, and they will not be so easily satisfied some day, so enjoy these little blessings now.

You're never too old to play in a sandbox. Isn't the beach just really one big sandbox? Phooey on your dad for being a party pooper!! You're the mom, it's your decision.

Let me get this straight. Your children asked you specifically for a toy which you are able to provide them, at little or no cost, and both of them want it. Your father, who likely has not had a 3rd or 4th grade child around on a regular basis , thinks it's inappropriate?

Your children want it, you personally don't find it to be a problem. Sandboxes can foster creativity. I fail to see what the problem here is, apart from your father making a judgement that makes no sense.

They are not too old to play in a sand box, I played in a sand box for as long as I can remember. My two best friends when I was younger were brothers and we loved to play in the sand box. Tell your dad that you want the sand and if your girls grow out of it fast, its not like you cant get rid of it!

They will have a blast! Trust me, it will be like a mini beach for them minus the water!

Umm..... I don't think that they're too big but it's really up to them. What you think and if they want to play in a sandbox are two different opinions.

You're never to old to play. You should let them have fun before it's too late. They'll thank you for letting them enjoy their childhood.

*sigh* My mother never got me a sandbox.
