Old time war thinking. The days of frontlines are gone, no one is going to go to war like that, anymore than they have since the Crimean War. Even our own Revolutionary War used guerilla tactics successfully. Thats whats going to be needed from here on out, and I think the situation in Iraq has shown that women can do their share without it being detrimental to anyone else. Lord knows they have lost arms and legs and their lives, theres just no reason to assume because they are women they can't shoot, or fly a plane just like men can. I can see not drafting women if it ever comes to pass that the draft returns, there are some women who would not make good soldiers, at the same time we have to realize that not all men make good soldiers either, but if they sign up thats a pretty good indication that thats something they are ready to face.
As to the rape argument...are you old enough to know that men can get raped too?
I am willing to agree that most women aren't the physical equal of most men, however this war, and the wars to come won't be fought in hand to hand combat or in trenches or other obsolete methods, and the hand that pulls the trigger, can just as easily be the hand that rocks the cradle. On a more serious note, war isn't good for either sex as the recent studies on post traumatic stress disorder and the amount of homeless vets shows.

Could an all women platoon handle front line?
An all women platoon couldnt handle eachother, let alone frontline duty.
Although, many female soldiers are being put into harms way, because the need to fill positions.
Sad but true, as pretty much everywhere in IRAQ is a front line.
When teams go out on raids, they require a female soldier to search the females, which basically means they are there kicking in doors and entering in as much as harms way as you can get.
Lets not forget the supply lines, those are just as hot as anywhere.
But an all female platoon - i cant see it myself, and wouldnt want anyone to prove me wrong either.

"Doesn't take much strength to pull a trigger???!!!" WOW that has to be from a civilian. How many people you killed!? Dumb ***.
Why are there no women athletes in NBA, NFL, MLH, MLB? Because a woman's body is not made to compete with a mans. That being said, how many Lady's you know out there right now that could hike 20miles at a 3-5mph pace, caring 60-100+ pounds of gear, in 100+ degree weather. Oh and your weapon. Along with that not just survive the hike but lead the weak ones who are having a hard time keeping up, as well by taking some of their gear. Once your done with the hike by the way you go right into a attack of a fortified position that is up hill. What if the Marine next to you gets hit and the Marine is a 6'2" 210lbs+ you going to be able to pick him up (with his gear on so make the weight 270+) and get them to safety.
I love seeing the answers on here form people who have never faced off with a enemy trying to kill them. Every fact, plan and statistic go's out the door when you are being shot at. Get some trigger time and you will know.

Read up the history of female soldiers in russia. There is nothing a male soldier can do that a capable woman could not.
To soloKing: how many men do you know that can do that? Including present army, I do not think many men can achieve that kind of physical endurance and come out alright. I know the army disabled my father and countless others by overloading them with that weight. I can also tell you countless others who pass out or have a heat stroke while marching in hot summers. Men are not magically more able than women, I know some pretty tough female soldiers and in a typical combat load, you are loaded light. Russia had some very accomplished female soldiers/ and or snipers. If able bodied people are needed, there are women that are willing to fill that role despite what fat, 50 year old senators think.

A platoon of the right women could. A lot of it is training. If they were given the high demanding physical training they could with time do all the lifting and marching and rucks that the guys do, they could do the job.
And as far as rape of the woman taken hostage during the gulf war, she wasn't a crewman, she was a flight surgeon. When the helicopter crashed, both of her arms and one hand were broken as well as one of her knees injured. Those injuries could just as easily been sustained by a man. So she didn't really have much capability to protect herself from being raped. And male prisoners of war have been raped before as well, so that is not a gender specific risk.

There are too many reasons why I say NO! But if your a feminist and are trying to convince everyone a woman can do anything a man can do, then get real!
*Shelby smile-you are one of those feminie nazi, dummy do the research, it doesn't take a genius to figure out that women can't do everything a man can do, and to say that they are better at a lot of things is just your clueless as s taking smack. i would like to see if you could lift a 250 pound weight; inject seamen out; or no cry when your best friend gets shot right in front of you, in the military-see if that won't distract you, it probably will and you'll get shot too. STFU.

I don't know if they were all huge bodybuider exercize freaks with floppy tittys they probably could physically. I don't think American women have the mental stamina. A few would but for 85% of the population no way. They still get to freaked out by things like spiders and polyester pants. They just got it too good in part because of the freedoms our boys have insured.

When it looked like the ERA was going to pass the US Air Force Human Factors Lab did a study on women in combat. They found that women could go longer or less food and were more likely to use their weapon. A lot of newbies do not fire their weapon in a firefight.
