After graduating from high school I didn't really do much of anything for three months. Couldn't get a decent job, was disenchanted with college, and didn't have any direction. As a senior I was recruited by the navy for their nuclear power program but I wasn't ready to commit eight years to something I didn't know that I wanted. Finally one day I just wandered in to the Marine Corps recruiters office and talked to a recruiter. Enlisted the next day. I didn't want to be a sailor, just another soldier, or a business suited airman, I was to become one of 'The Few, The Proud, The Marines'. (no offense intended to the other services, I have great respect for all who serve.)
Boot camp was the greatest challenge of my life at the time. It finally instilled the discipline, confidence, and pride that I'd been lacking. I know with out a doubt that the Marines put me on the right path. The Marines taught me leadership, integrity, trust, and responsibility. They gave me the ability to continue my education and complete my degree, experience the world and other cultures, to meet new people, and to better understand life. It gave me a broader view and life experiences that can be had in varying environments. As my career progressed being a Marine allowed me to be a teacher an mentor, to pass on lessons learned to younger Marines.
My original intent was to do my time and get out. Well after 23 years I finally got out and retired.
Being a Marine is something I'd would never trade for anything.

in case you're going for the main action then you incredibly definately want the Marines. they are despatched in to do the grimy paintings and to get the interest finished; failure isn't an decision. Now, it incredibly is the physique of ideas for all squaddies, yet once you're searching for the dept of the protection rigidity in many cases that sees greater floor try against, then this is fairly the Marines. you generally have particular Forces which see a lot of action in each and every branch. The military has the SEALs (seen to pass for the duration of the main extreme protection rigidity coaching in the international), the army has the Rangers, Airborne Infantry and Delta rigidity, and the Air rigidity has particular methods communities. draw back of the Marines: They get the least money from the government. it fairly is undemanding for them to be afflicted by insufficiently maintained weapons and issues at the same time with that because of the lack of ability of ideal money and help. So i could advise you seem into particular forces greater and see in case you are able to wish to be a particular Forces Officer in whichever branch. additionally they acquire greater progressed coaching than the infantry does with the aid of nature.

MY FATHER IS A CAPTAIN IN THE MARINES! it is by far the best branch out there! you get SO many benefits its not even funny. you would might end up going to MCRD Next to Camp Pendalten if you do go but. The boot camp is the longest, and the hardest out of all the branches. The amount of time at boot camp is 13 weeks, but it will the best decision of your life. You really wouldn't regret it. as far as bad things about the corp, there isn't any. but the corp isn't just a branch of military is is the most proud and the moth dedicated, and to be a UNITED STATES MARINE, it HAS to be in your heart to become one. SEMPER FI! meaning always faithful.
ps, think through it carefully, cuz the Marines do not play.

My husband joined last October. He says that you will probably be miserable during the first year. You will have no freedom during bootcamp or MCT, and very little during MOS school. You don't make much money unless you have dependants. I think most people wouldn't do it again if they had the chance. On the positive side you will learn to use a lot of weapons and you will get to travel a lot. Everyone goes in with a different situation and reason, but I definately reccommend making sure it's the right thing for you.

Its the hardest, easiest, job you will ever love to hate, and hate to love.
No one on here especially me can tell you what the Marine Corp is going to be like for you. I have loved my time in the Corp, made life long brothers (not just friends) experienced some of the worst and best things in my life. No matter what just realize this, it is not just a job it is a life style. You are a Marine 24/7 on duty and off, there are no breaks. I hope you go and even if you don't best of luck to you!

I can tell you now sir that the Marines is the wrong way to go. If you want to go for shooting weapons and protecting your country, I suggest you join the Navy S.E.A.L.S as they are tougher then Marines, and they Kick more ***, No offense to Marines, but to any Marine out there I am proud of what you are doing for this country, and fight well.
I would also like to tell you sir that The recruiter will do anything to get you to join their branch of military, I would also like to say that it is your choice, and I will be proud, and i'm sure the citizens of this country will be proud of you. So do your best, and pick well.

I won't get into all the political BS, i'll just say that the Marine Corps changed my life and gave me so much. The experiences and the knowledge i have gained has helped me in every aspect of my life. It's a little overwhelming at first, but once you get into it it's great...from my experience s at least.

BEING A MARINE MOM, I CAN TELL YOU ITS PROBABLY THE BEST THING YOU WILL EVER DO FOR YOURSELF. YOU WILL BECOME SO DISIPLINED. YOU WILL SERVE YOUR COUNTRY WITH PRIDE AND DIGNITY. YOU WILL BE RESPECTED BY EVERYONE. ON THE DOWN SIDE, YOU WILL BE AWAY FROM YOUR FAMILY AND FRIENDS. BUT YOU WILL GET 30 DAYS+ A YEAR TO COME HOME AND VISIT OR FAMILY CAN TAKE A TRIP TO VISIT YOU ONCE YOU GRADUATE FROM BOOT CAMP. THOSE 13 WEEKS ARE TOUGH. IF YOU DECIDE TO GO IN THE CORPS, MY BEST OF LUCK TO YOU. CHECK OUT THE MARINE WEBSITES ALSO.

Sorry, I was Navy and Army. Stayed away from the Marines, because the risk of dying is higher there.
