When Jesus was in human form...it was the flesh that died...His spirit NEVER died...
Ecclesiastes 12:7 Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it.

I hope this helps .
The whole purpose of The father God sending The son was so that he could feel all that we felt up to and including death This was to show through example and let people know that he was still able to resist evil He is the standard that we all try to achieve . The only time that Jesus was not in communion with the father is right before he died when he took all the sin in the world into him and became the sacrifice he was supposed to be . This is a part of the trinity belief that although God is one being , he has 3 distinct persona's . God the father , God the son , God the holy spirit . God could not bear the sin since it was un clean so it was the only time that Jesus did not have contact . There was still God the father while Jesus died on the cross .But the death of Jesus also served another purpose . Before his Death , there was no actual Hell or Heaven but Sheol . A place where all souls went to after they died . During his three day burial , the spirit of Jesus traveled to this place , met with Lucifer , took the ( symbolic ? ) keys from him and proceded to empty it out of all those that followed God the father , and ushered them to Heaven .
Hope I cleared it up for you !!

That's where the concept of the Trinity comes in. Consider the analogy of the sun. It's an object in space far away from earth. But then when we say "look at the sun" what we're referring to is the light which comes from the sun. We treat sunlight as part of the sun. And likewise with respect to the sun's heat.
God the Father is like the sun - he is spoken of as being in heaven. But Jesus is like sunlight. He comes from the sun to the earth. The Spirit is like the heat from the sun.
Now at night time you can't see the sunlight. But the sun still exists and you even still experience it's heat.
In fact it's interesting that during Jesus' crucifixion it says, "From the sixth hour until the ninth hour darkness came over all the land." Mt 27:45 And likewise Jesus says of himself, "I am the light of the world." John 8:12
For John chapter 1 states:
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
2 He was with God in the beginning.
3 Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.
4 In him was life, and that life was the light of men.
5 The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood it.

Yes , God cannot die as a Spirit being he is the source of all life but as the Son he can come to die and yet the world still goes on. God did purpose a plan from before the world was created and Jesus Christ was a mystery or secret until he manifested upon the earth. god is not 3 persons in one and the Bible teaches very plainly God is one person. This is the first and greatest commandment of the Bible; Deuteronomy 6:4 Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD:
Mark 12:29 And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord:
1 Corinthians 8:6 But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him.
Now the mystery is that the Son and the Father are one and the same person and the Bible says so here; Isaiah 9:6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.
How can a son be born and called everlasting father and mighty God if the son is not the father of us all then the Bible is a lier, and I know that the Bible cannot lie.
Now to answer the question you asked further, Jesus went to Hell after he died to preach to people that lived in Noah's days that they should have listened to Noah and Enoch about his day coming which was now upon them in hell; 1 Peter 3:18 For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit: 19 By which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison;
1 Peter 4:6 For for this cause was the gospel preached also to them that are dead, that they might be judged according to men in the flesh, but live according to God in the spirit.
So if you read the above verses you can understand that Jesus purpose for dying was to go to hell and raise all of the people that were in hell that were his people you can understand the scripture that says when Jesus died on the cross there was a great earthquake and many that were dead arose from the graves and seen of many people; Matthew 27: 51And, behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent; Matthew 27:52 And the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints which slept arose, 53And came out of the graves after his resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many.
See the wording here says very plainly AFTER his resurrection, people were seeing Abraham, Israel, Joseph, and many other saints. So if you can understand Jesus went to hell to get the keys of hell and death so he could get all his people back to heaven; Revelation 1:18 I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death.

That's where understanding the idea of a "triune" God comes in. Jesus is God the son, there is also God the Father and God the Holy Spirit. This is a really confusing concept to grasp, it feels like trying to explain how an engine works to an ant (me being the ant!).
So Jesus not being present does not mean the absence of God. God is still present. I know this is really confusing.

Apparently, you have been partially informed. The term translated in English as God, in Hebrew has several terms; some singular, some plural. Jesus was God (singular), Lord, YHWH, Jehovah, etc. He was also the Son of God (the Father). So even if he was 'dead' for three days, God the Father still could watch over us.

Jesus told his followers that when he left earth, that he would send the comforter, the Holy Spirit, who is also a personage of the triune Godhead. Jesus also stated I will never leave you nor forsake you...When Jesus died on the cross,God left us in bodily form only....
