Hi,
as I say in the title, my one and a half year old daughter is still not walking!
Her big sis (now 6) walked before her 1st birthday, her brother (now 10) walked just after his 1st birthday, she however is not at all interested!
She had a walker but tried jumping out of it - aieeee!! LOL She has a pushing toy, we enchurage her to walk with this as it will support her, but no - uh-uh!
I have a niggle at the back of my mind. Do you think I'm being daft?

Thank you so much to everybody who took the time to answer. I really appreciate it.
She is not overweight, and is a 'lightening fast' crawler! She does pull herself up on furniture, and will stand with a toy for a few seconds but won't walk without holding onto furnature.
I feel really daft now lol but thanks again, your replies did help me.

The worst thing to do is compare them, although i know how easy it can be. I've made that mistake with my two girls. My little girl was the same, she didn't walk until a week before she was 18months & she hasn't stopped since. (she will be 4 in july)
We played a game with her where she would be trying to get to her feet & we would say, Lucy stand up, she would stand for the whole of a second then on her bum again, after a while I think determination set in.
I wouldn't worry to much, but if your delightful little madam (little girls are) isn't walking by 18 months it is advised to speak with your gp or health visitor.
All children are different & learn at their own pace.

My daughter started walking at 21 months 1 week. She was only able to stand up pulling herself in the bathtub when she was 19 months old.
Apparently, 97% of all children are able to walk at the age of 18 months. The remaining 3%... learn it a little later. Like my little Emma or the neighbours' daughter (at 19 months).
Question: does your baby 'walk' sitting? Emma used to slide on her bottom, very fast in the end, it really made us laugh, because she had acquired a remarkable skill doing this...
Good luck, it's summer, so she will not be too wet.
Very important: avoid walkers. They do not help at all. Neither does helping by holding and all that stuff. It may amuse her -(and you), but it is of no use. She has to learn it on her own. REALLY! And she will.

Your worry is genuine. But you have to see if your daughter is by any chance is not over weight or if she is moving all her limbs normally,if so there is no need to worry as there is always a chance of some of the children taking some extra time to walk, keep trying but don't push her too much .She will walk taking her own time.If this situation still persists after another 6 months then you should take her to an paediatrician(A Child Specialist).
Wishing you all the best in seeing your daughter walk soon.Bye and God Bless you and your Family.

Yes you are being daft.
I did not walk until I was 22 months. I think it was because I was so intelligent I could work out that my three brothers and sisters would get everything for me or carry me around LOL! Your daughter must be smart!
Anyway, walking at 22 months did me no harm - I went on to do 9 years of classical ballet and jazz ballet as well as swimming and gymnastics - so I was as active as the next child. Don't worry - she will walk when she is ready.

Don't worry....
My little boy is coming up for two and does not walk, he has had some problems with muscle tone and hypermobility in his joints and was always very inactive until recently (he never rolled over on his own etc) and could never strengthen his leg muscles because he hardly ever moved ... he will walk and he is making good progess now.
Your child sounds very active and obvoiusly has nothing wrong with gross motor skills so please don't worry!! Sounds perfectly normal to me alot of children don't walk till later than yours. If she is pulling to stand etc then there is nothing to worry about. Don't force her.
One more thing... I bet you will find she is more advanced in other areas like fine manipulative skills or language etc. Babies are all unique and develop in their own way.
If you are really concerned pop along to your health visitor for a chat, she will definatly put your mind at ease.

Hi star,
I have a daughter about the same age as yours, she atarted walking about a week befor her 1st birthday, and my friend has a son who is just 3 weeks younger than my daughter and he never started walking until he was 16 mths old.
A little boy at the nusery my daugheter goes to who is 10 days younger than her, has only started walking and hes also 18mths.
I know its a worring time when you baby isn't doing what its ''supposed'' to be doing, but thats just it, every child is different and they develop at different speeds. I bet your daughter is doing things that mine cant or hasnt started doing yet.
I really hope she starts walking soon
Good luck!

I don't think its anything to worry about they are all different and I'm sure she will walk when she is ready. A lot of it is having the confidence to do it.
My eldest son walked at 11 months and my youngest who is now 15 months walked at around 13 months but a friend of mine's son has only just started walking at 22 months and is perfectly fine! If you are concerned take her to the doctors to put your mind at rest but I really do think you have nothing to worry about.

It won't do any harm to take her for an assessment. You say you have a niggle so, if only to relieve that, take her along to the clinic. She's probably fine but, if something is amiss, the sooner its known the better. There have been cases where kids have had broken limbs and it wasn't known. Best of luck.
