Well...he smells like butt, I gave him a bath yesterday and he still smells like butt. I took him to the vet and the vet acted like he didn't smell anything...so any idea why he smells like this...it's really a problem...well cause it stinks!

He is 3 1/2 months old and a doberman. He doesn't have long hair...and it comes from his butt not his head. There isn't anything messy in my house to cause it, he has no cage he has free reign except at night which he goes in the basement..which doesn't smell like him. He eats Nutros puppy food recomended by his vet. My fiance said that he used to have a dog that smelled like him and it was a gland problem, I was wondering if it's the case, is he too young?

Dogs can have anal glad problems at any age.

And sometimes, im not sure because my dobies never had that problem. But you need to go get his anal glands squeezed (MAJOR EWWW FOR ME!!!) But it has to be done, so you have to go to a vet or groomer and have them do it. Or you can do it yourself, I dont know how but you can look it up.But I dont advise it because i can just imagine it squirting into your eye!!!

how old is the puppy? Could it be gas? what type of dog is it? Some dogs need there gland emptied. But your vet should have said some thing about that. You can get spray for him at the pet store. He could also be rubbing in something out side or in the house that smells? Does he have a cage? Has it been cleaned?

Gee never had a pup smell like butt!
Depending on how old your pup is it may be the anal glands leaking some of their fluid. Thats pretty nasty fishie smelling. If your bathing your pup too often and not getting all the soap out that can cause a not to nice of a smell. You can try just rinsing your pup with no soad and see if that helps. Maybe feeding him a very good food will help his coat too.

Well, how old is the puppy? Where's the smell coming from? Puppy's have "puppy breath" which I LOVE! But if you really think about it, it kinda smells like butt or vomit, but it's got a distinct smell. They grow out of it. Smell his breath and see if that's it, if not just smell around him and isolate where the smell is, give him a bath with some puppy shampoo. Good luck!

Go to the store and buy some Downy Fabric lotion Liquid.
give your dog a bath using dog shampoo and put an inch of Downy in a gallon jug and use it as a conditioner. This should make you pup smell like whatever sent you have chosen.
this is what I was taught in Dog ggrooming school.

well not to say you have a messy home but it could be his living conditions. if it a long haired do it could be that dirt is still traped in his fur. depending on the age of your puppy it could also be if hes young that its natural since he was born to to long ago..... my duckes smell like rotten eggs.... all you can do is give him frequent baths but not too many or else his skin will become irretated and you could you a different king of shampoo on him

Did you ask your vet about expressing the anal glands?
It is something you can do yourself. Maybe the vet had a head cold.
