I've been hearing nothing but "Atheists are infecting society!" from Christians and "Atheism is growing..." from fellow Atheists. Where can I get in on these statistics? I want to make my day a little happier so help me out here!

It is really hard to get rock solid numbers because you can swing the numbers a lot by asking the question different ways. But we are up to almost 10% of the population now, up from about 6% 30 years or so. Some of that data is in these articles and they will point you to the original polls.

Added: someone up above listed the government sources. If you check the census is by law not allowed to directly ask, so their number is an estimate based on history. That doesn't really help at all. The CIA uses the census data. I personally think the census SHOULD ask. But again, it really depends on how you ask the question.

These are government counts, so I expect them to be fairly objective and hopefully somewhat accurate.
**Edit: I have a hard time believing that they were able to compile these numbers without having to ask someone something. I am not sure how history would allow them to count followers of a faith or lack thereof. If this is the case, could someone provide the protocols for this type of count.

Wow, really where you are getting this from? Atheists are infecting society. I thought the germs were from religion. Where there's no religion there's no infection. Religion can affect your health. Avoid it!

Where you can get these "statistix" is from people that influence your life, if you don't think that Atheism is spreading then so be it, if you think that Christians are wrong for sayin so then so be it...what's the problem??
