Pastor Billy says: to answer your first question one word "envy"
read some of my other answers and especially my questions which attempt to bring to light the many contradictions of Protestants especially on what they criticise Catholics for.
"there are not 100 people who hate the Catholic Church, yet there are millions who hate what they think it to be" Archbishop Fulton Sheen
the above quote is very appropriate especially after reading the many responses from non-Catholics. Basically most of these people have no idea what Catholicism really teaches and how Catholics practise their Christian faith.

Who says that Protestants dislike Catholics? I think in Ireland, maybe, but ... nope that's it. There are huge differences, starting with the Pope and going on from there. Catholic Bible has been altered to remove the 4th commandment that says "Remember the Sabbath Day and Keep it Holy." and replaced it with 2 of another one - don't remember which. Just because I chose not to follow a Pope, doesn't mean I don't like Catholic people. That would not be the Christian thing to do, would it?

I am Christian Reformed and i don't hate Catholics!! all my neighbors are Catholics and they're so nice!!
Anyway, the difference sounds like major but the core belief that Jesus is Lord, died for our sins, and rose again are the same. Catholics believe in the Saints and that Mary was perfect and maybe some other small stuff but basically, the two branches of Christianity are the same with the same core belief which is all that really matters.
God bless

Martin Luther posted his grievances on the door. That's what started the split. I could list them now, but it really doesn't matter, because this is a characteristic of all religions. Muslims split as soon as Mohammed left the scene. Mormons have repeatedly split. I can't think of a single religion that hasn't had a schism at some point. Even the Catholic church, itself, is a split off of the Orthodox church.
The thing is, when you base your beliefs on a superstition, there's nothing to prevent someone from coming along with slightly different beliefs with just the same authority. There are no real gods around to set people straight.

I don't dislike Catholic people at all. Here are my reservations about the Catholic faith:
1. I don't think that Mary had an immaculate conception (in other words, I don't believe that God caused Mary's mother to conceive without the assistance of Mary's father).
2. I don't think it is wise to pray to Mary.
3. I don't think that communion is the literal blood and body of Jesus.
4. I don't think it's wise to call the pope infallible, because he is still a human being.

They idolize Mary and the pope, who is just a mere man. They believe in rituals and traditions, speaking to the dead, and many other traditions of men which are not traditions of God. They also have many beliefs which are not Scriptural, not backed up by the Bible.
Catholics, for the most part, do not consider themselves to be Christian. They don't adhere to the essentials of the Christian faith. Christians follow the Bible strictly; Catholics, for the most part, don't.
That is to answer the 2nd and 3rd part of the question.
I am a Protestant (Christian) and I don't dislike them; I pray for their salvation just as I do everyone else who doesn't have a saving relationship with Jesus Christ. Unless a person has a true relationship with Jesus Christ, faith alone, they are not saved... Catholic or not.

The catholic church and it's followers claim to be THE authority on what is right or wrong concerning the Bible, God and Christ. Mighty funny that they do so many things that Jesus said not to do. Many things that go against the Bible. They think that they can pray through dead people instead of praying through Jesus Christ alone.
They believe that they can perform acts of penance for their sins, as if the price that Jesus paid was insufficient.
They believe in purgatory, where a soul that was 'not quite good enough' to go to heaven can wait for someone to pray enough to release them into heaven. The fact is that there are none good, no not one. We can never be good enough to earn a place in heaven. Only Christ that lives in us can get us there.
Just a few examples of their difference. False doctrine and unsound theology, mainly.

Protestants don't "dislike" Catholics... they simply don't agree with their doctrine or traditions. Catholics worship Mary and the Saints, Protestants worship Jesus Christ. There are other theological differences. Check it out with a little research.

In short, protestants grew out of movements that had a problem with the amazing curruption of the Catholic church and the popes. THe Catholic church killed millions of protestants during the dark ages , took lots of money from the people, and made themselves a greater authority than the bible. I like to think of it in terms of Star Wars - Empire=Catholic Church, JEdi=Protestants

Not neccesarily. Catholics believe the way to Heaven is through Mary the mother of Jesus. Christians on the other hand believe that it is directly through Christ that you are saved and can go to Heaven. Stupidly small diffrence but sets the two religions worlds apart.
