I've always thought the same thing. Maybe they do have an inkling of what really happens after we die.

Christians generally don't grieve to the same degree as the world. If a Christian loved one dies the grief is that you will be separated from the person for the rest of your life. But not for eternity. Ever been to a Christian funeral?
"Brothers, we do not want you to be ignorant about those who fall asleep, or to grieve like the rest of men, who have no hope. We believe that Jesus died and rose again and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him." 1Thess 4:13,14
Furthermore there's the resurrection from the dead. In fact I plan my tombstone to read "I'll be back!" (Also leaves a great impression on whoever is walking through the cemetary at night)

Because if the person was not saved then he will go to Hell (which is a horrible place). If you are saved then you would never see them again. We grieve the loss of a loved one, the torture they could have gone without, and never being able to enjoy Heaven with them. If they are saved, we just grieve the loss of a loved one. That's all.

Grief is a natural and normal human emotion which is experienced with loss. When someone whom I love dies, I grieve because I miss them. Even if I know they have gone to heaven, I still feel sad, especially if they have died at an early age. Even Jesus wept at the loss of his friend Lazarus, while knowing that he would raise him from the dead.

We are human and feel sadness when a loved one dies. Even Jesus wept (at the death of his friend, Lazarus. John 11:35). But we have hope. Psalm 30:5b states that "weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning." We also grieve for people who have not accepted Jesus as their Savior. They will not experience the reality of heaven.
That, too, is cause for sadness.

When someone dies they are forever separated from this particular world, those living here will not see them again until the afterlife. That may be a long time to be separated from someone you love. When you say goodbye to someone close who you may see for a long time, do you not feel sad even if you know they are o.k.? Also, we must hope that their heart was right with God, because we do not know the heart as God knows the heart, their is always a possibility that they may not be where we expect.

The apostle Paul, in his letter to the Thessalonians, talks about that very issue. He said as Christians, "we sorry, but not as those who have no hope." While we know that we will see them again, we still miss them until that time.
