I know of many people who have been christians, then a dramatic event in their life has shattered their faith completely.

When christians see this happen to others, do some of them develop anxiety that the same may happen to them?

It is a good question to be sure. I don't think a Christian can lose his faith, unless he wasn't really a Christian to begin with but only thought he was.
To me, being a Christian means having faith in Christ to the bitter end. After all, that is what He went through for us.
I feel pretty sure I will trust Him all the way to my grave. I can't help, remember that Peter denied Him three times, so I must acknowledge that it is possible that I could falter out of fear of the moment, but in my heart, I will never lose faith in Him.
