I know she has a few rings lying around... Would they have a size number written on the back of the ring? Should I just "borrow" one and take it to the jeweler for sizing?

I would just pick one you like in say a 7. You can always go back and get it sized. The problem with grabbing one is you might not know which finger it goes on. I wear different sizes on right and left hands. I think the "surprise" is more fun.

If she has one that she wears on her ring finger of her left hand, you could borrow it and take it to the jeweler. Or, you could ask her friends (if you think they would be good at keeping their mouths shut), because they might be able to bring it up casually, or trade rings and find out what fit. If you can't do that, it would probably be best to just get the ring made in an average size (I think most big stores make them in size 7), and surprise her with it. Or, just buy the diamond (on a plain, boring band) and tell her that you want to pick out the setting together. My fiance and I went and looked at rings before he proposed, so we could both get an idea of what I liked, but exactly what it was, and when he did it was still a surprise.

You can try borrowing one but she may not be wearing it if it does't fit. Since this in under weddings/engagements think of a really cool cool cool way to ask her. Then if the ring doesn't fit you can always get it sized. Another option is to give her fake ring and make arrangements with the jeweler to look at some rings you like and let her make the final pick.I can bet you 20 years from now she will still have the fake ring!

You're right not to guess at the size. I wear a 4, so don't listen to the joker who says get a size 7. The problem w/ using a ring she has lying around is that it might not be worn on her ring finger. 6 is an average size. And you can get it sized to fit if it does not have stones all the way around the band.

Borrow one and take it to a jeweler to get the size - even if that's not where you're going to buy the ring. Just go in and ask what size is this ring - they'll tell you.

I would just go to the jeweller and purchase one. I find the most common size is 6.5-7 for women. Get the average and get is sized later. Most places include the sizing in the purchase of the ring.

Don't just guess. There is nothing worse than a ring that is too small on the day of a proposal. She'll want to show off that rock. Does she have a sister you could ask? her mom? You can slip one of her rings on your own finger and mark it with a pen, but that's a bit risky. Your best bet is to take one of hers to a jeweler, just be sure it's one that she wears on her ring finger preferably on the left hand (they can be different sizes).

Absolutely "borrow" the ring. Make sure it's one that she wears on the right finger though! Don't want to mess it up after going through all that work! LOL

Even places like WalMart have those things to tell you what size a ring is.

Good luck... make sure you come up with a really romantic way to propose!! :) Congrats, too! :) Someone that wants to do a surprise these days is really special... you are so getting a "yes" from her! LOL

You could take one of the rings and go to the jeweler, he can tell you the size of the ring and your girlfriend's finger. Good Luck!!

Yes, borrow one or two that you've seen on her ring finger, and bring it to the jeweler. He has a device that can tell him exactly the size of the ring.

You can borrow one, like the others are saying, however she might notice it missing. You could get the one she wears on that finger and draw the inside of it on a piece of paper. Take the paper to the store you want to purchase the new ring, they have ring sizers they can match your circle up to. Should be foolproof. Hope that helped!
