Ok, honestly. I can't even believe that you asked this question. If your city was hit by a major hurricane and it was ran by a bunch of bumbling idiots what would you do? Move? I don't think so. (Most) people are here because they have spent a lot of time here in the city and they have grown to love the culture. I was not a resident of New Orleans during the storm, but I moved here a month and a half later to help do my part to get this city running again. Once I was here i decided to stay. Now almost two years later I have fallen in love with this wonderful city. Sure there are some people who give New Orleans a bad name, but there are also many of us here that actually care about what goes on. Why don't you try spending some serious time here and you will probably not want to leave.

Go some other city in the US and they are all the same or about the same, New Orleans different from any other place, i lived in atlanta for 9 months after katrina and couldn't stand it because there is no place like New Orleans, i'm really sick of people coming on this page asking questions like this then getting mad when they don't get the asnwer they want. Let me ask you a aquestion, why does, whereever in the world you live, matter. its you home right? well THAT'S why New Orleans matters. its MY home and home to all my family and friends. You know nothing about New Orleans so next time just keep you unless and uncalled for questions to yourself, and come back when YOUR home gets flooded and you lose EVERYTHING you have ever owned and go weeks not knowing where your family and friends are and crying your eyes out for months. when you go through that, then ask this question.

It's one of the oldest and most historical cities in the United States. It's been around longer than most settlements in this country. To me, it's kind of like the Venice of America; very old and historic and slowly sinking into the ocean. The only difference is Italy cares about their Venice and is spending billions to save while we attempt to just keep NOLA afloat rather than giving it the protection it deserves. NOLA is such a unique and historical city, it's has more character and history than 99% of the places in this country. Not to mention it has one of the biggest and most important ports in the country and world. I've only visited there once and am coming back next year and may look into grad school or getting a job there b/c I want to put my Urban Studies and Planning degree to good use and help that city. NOLA is such a great city but it is just poorly ran and has so many problems that politicians down there can't seem to fix. In a coutnry that is increasingly becoming homegenized with fast food chains, Wal Marts, Home Depots, ect... it's nice to know there are still some unique, one of a kind cities left in this country. NOLA may have it's share of problems, but what big city doesn't. I love that city and can't wait to return.

It was beautiful city, and it needs to be rebuilt, it has a rich US history. Even though there a lot of people who don't want to go back to NO there are still plenty who do want to go home. So it does matter, even if the government doesn't think so, all those people who lived in NO during Katrina matter as well!

Beats me. I've visited there several times and like the place a lot, but don't understand why billions of tax dollars should be poured into it. And I'm not alone; my friends right up the river (native Louisianans) in Luling, LA hate New Orleans and all the crybabies in it.
