how do you build a simple remote control robot?? i have always wanted to make one, but i don't know where to start??

Depends what you mean by 'remote control'. The simplest would be toggle switches (on/off) wired directly to individual motors. As you turned each motor on or off, it would cause various reactions in your robot.
To get more complex actions, start thinking about rheostats, reversing motors (maybe you want to go hydraulic instead of electric), logic circuits, etc.
Remember, a robot is not always something that walks around...an automated welding arm is a robot, and so is something like the Predator drone.

it sounds like you might be interested in robot fighting league. they are like battlebots was on tv a few years ago, but they have weight classes down to 1 pound.
