The question of what happens after death can be confusing. The Bible is not explicitly clear on when a person will reach their final eternal destiny. The Bible tells us that after the moment of death, a person is taken to Heaven or Hell based on whether he or she had received Christ as his or her Savior. For believers, after death is to be "away from the body and at home with the Lord" (2 Corinthians 5:6-8; Philippians 1:23). For unbelievers, after death means everlasting punishment in Hell (Luke 16:22-23).
This is where it can get confusing as to what happens after death. Revelation 20:11-15 describes all those in Hell being cast into the lake of fire. Revelation chapters 21-22 describe a New Heaven and New Earth. Therefore, it seems that until the final resurrection, after death a person resides in a “temporary” Heaven and Hell. A person's eternal destiny will not change, but the precise "location" of a person's eternal destiny will change. At some point after death, believers will be sent to the New Heavens and New Earth (Revelation 21:1). At some point after death, unbelievers will be thrown into the lake of fire (Revelation 20:11-15). These are the final, eternal destinations of all people - based entirely on whether a person had trusted Jesus Christ alone for the salvation of their sins.

When you take your last breathe on earth, if you have not accepted Jesus as your Savior and been forgiven of sin, you are going to hell. If you have ask the Lord into your heart, ask him to forgive you of your sins, and that you believe he died and rose again then your name is written in the book of life and you are going to heaven. No ifs ands or buts about it, and it is what the Bible says and it does not matter if you believe me or not, the truth is the truth no matter how we see it. The truth does not change because of us.........our souls do not die and a million years from now your soul will exist either in heaven or hell, you have the free choice to choose....this is for everyone, no matter what the practicing religion, it is the matter of having taken the gift of salvation into your heart....you can be catholic by faith, but have you ask Jesus to forgive you of sin and ask him to come into your heart? Think about it, talk to the Lord, ask Him to direct you...if you are for real...He will....be blessed.

Does this apply to any other portion of life?
When you jump off a cliff, does it matter what you believe will happen to you? No.
If you refuse to put gas in your car, can you believe it will keep running? No.
Why would death suddenly give you this wonderful ability to define the way the universe works that you had never had before?
It doesn't. There's no evidence anything happens to you more than that your body falls apart and all brain activity stops.

There is only Heaven or Hell, and one GOD....we are given the freedom to choose. Choose/find the right path, and that decides if someone will go to Hell or Heaven. You may ask what if a child is born in a family of non-believers and at the age of 7 he dies of illness. Did he have the chance to explore or find his path. Well. GOD is most merciful and most Gracious, He knows who to forgive and who not. One thing i know, all your worst nightmares will come true in Hell.

If what you believe is true, then what you expect will happen will.
As a Christian, I believe that we will all go to the same place and the a loving and just God will deal with each of us individually.

Haven't died, yet.
But basically, when I die, I believe that I will go to Heaven - eventually. I am not worthy to go there immediately at my death, though I am working on it, so I will pray that I go to Purgatory to have the remainder of my sins purged from my soul. (I will not complain any if God sees fit to have me in Heaven right away.)

No, you either go to Heaven or Hell. No matter what you believe. If you allow Jesus to come into your heart (rule your life), believe that He died for your sins, and confess your sins to Him, then and only then will you go to Heaven. If not, you go to Hell. The other ways to get to where you want to go are lies. It's as simple as that. : D

No what happens to atheists happens to everyone regardless of their religious beliefs.
Otherwise somebody might choose to believe he will be like giant anteater but one that eats souls when he dies, and he would just be snacking on all those other people who thought their souls would survive death, sucking them up his big soul-eater snout in their hundreds.

I'm sorry to say that no matter what anyone tells you, absolutes do exist. God exists. Gravity exists. Morals exist.
People could jump off of a building saying "I believe that I will fly!" Does that make it true? Of course not. Because there is an absolute law called gravity.
Truth doesn't change based on what you believe. Truth is truth.
