I heard that when you go to an eye dr to have your eyes measured for colored contacts you can ask to see what colors will look like on your eyes and how the contact feels...this was hearsay and I don't know if it's a crock or not, but is it true? It would be really cool of them since I've been looking around for advice on which contacts look natural and there seem to be a lot of people who got a pair they hate...but they would have to use a new pair for anyone who tried them on, so I tend to think its not true. If you have any other advice as far as colors, I want something different but natural, preferably a beautiful saturated blue...I have light grayish eyes

There are "trial" lenses available to those considering disposable contact lenses. You can get a pair (some trial lenses are only available in non-prescription, Acuvue colors have the word "test" written on the top half of the lens) You can try them on to make sure you like the color before you order the boxes. There are several different brands. Acuvue and Freshlooks are probably the most popular. These diagnostic trial lenses are free of charge. You just can't expect to get a pair in every single color. We usually tell our patients to choose 2 colors to try...only because sometimes its hard to get the trial in.

They would also sit down with you and show you the correct way to insert and remove your contacts and how to care for them.

If you are considering non-disposable, vialed contacts (Regular daily wear, which you typically get one pair to last you for the whole year) they are NOT available in any type of a trial basis. You look at a chart, pick the color, and they will send you your lenses. So you better make sure you like the color you pick. If you ask me, disposable lenses are the way to go.

The colored contacts should work just like the regular ones. I used to wear colored for years (I have blue eyes, and would always pick the aqua colored lenses...the color looked AWESOME!), and while I never tried any on, the offices always had a chart with the various colors that they had available. Some look natural, even the aqua looked natural, but some, like the violet, were obviously not natural colors.

I think your best bet is to ask your doctor yourself since the majority of offices work differently, and tend to have their own policies regarding things like getting free pairs of contacts to try and such. Good luck!

Virtually every tinted lens manufacturer makes trial lenses available to offices that dispense contact lenses, just so that people like you can try them on. Some lenses may not have any corrective power, so you won't be wearing them out of the office for a few days. Using the office's mirror, a variety of different lighting conditions - fluorescent, incandescent and natural sunlight , and the opinions of everyone in the office (bring a friend), you should be able to reach a good decision on the color or colors you like best.

Normally if you are considering contacts they will give you a pair to wear for a few weeks to see how you like them. I am not sure about the trying the color parts.

Yeah, I recognise this woman with blue coloured contacts and you'll fully inform that it's false. It appears so unantural while you appear at them. Yes, I could believe that you're seeking to be any one that you're now not. I say do not do it, you could have beautiful eyes.
