Usually, the 3rd and 4th days are the most difficult. Try eating chipped ice with a spoon by sucking on the ice. Anything cold relieves the pain temporarily, such as cold jello, Popsicle's (not ice cream, it creates Flem). Did your doctor prescribe any pain medication? Call the office and ask if you can take Motrin, or some other type of over the counter pain relief. It will go away within time, just be patient and eat plenty of cold, soft food.

I had mine out a few years ago at an adult age, and I know that pain you are having right now. I used a lot of ice packs, and cold compresses and ice water. After my throat healed, I found out about the miracle lollipops...would have been nice to have one while I endured the pain. The reason you have so much pain, is the nerve endings are exposed where you had the surgery, and they have to heal. Here is a link to the lollipops, you may have a hard time getting a script for them, as they contain fentanyl, which is a very strong opiate, especially if you are teenage or younger.

If the link doesn't work, try this one:

I had mine out too when I was 18! (old for a tonselectomy) and yes it is agony.
Honey- it WILL get better. Tomorrow it will feel better. Your throat will be tender for quite a while though. Aren't you taking pain killers? I was on Codeine tablets after my op. Ask your mum to get you some. Try and occupy your mind with movies and games etc, try not to think about it as much as possible. Watch a funny movie.
Take pain killers etc.
Good luck.

You can ask the doctor for stronger pain medication. I used cold water and sherbet to keep my throat cold.
