This is what the Quran dictates:
If you fear high-handedness from your wives, remind them [of the teaching of God], then ignore them when you go to bed, then hit them.
Surely it is better to remind the wife of her duty, or sulk for a while, or even strike her lightly, and then bring in arbiters who could, if all attempts at reconciliation fail, rule in favor of divorce [in Sura 4:35]. (p. 55)
It's not OK for a Muslim man to hit any woman, especially his wife. This right to beat when the woman is "behaving badly" is based on a sexist privilege belonging only to him and paternalistic notion that he can beat the woman "to change for the better".
Under no circumstances is it morally justifiable for a spouse to even raise his hand against his partner.

It is acceptable in the Muslim culture. In Islam, a Muslim wife has half the legal rights of her Muslim husband. A Christian woman married to a Muslim man has one quarter the legal rights. Therefore, any legal redress against an errant husband is almost impossible to obtain.

I do not think the religion said it's ok to hit a woman. Muslim men probably did it because they misinteprate the true meaning (if anywhere in Islam mentioned it), just so they can have the upper hand. Man made rules.

Ok in the eyes of who,Muhammad? He died a long time ago and the rules in the Muslim Quran was written by three people. They made up the rules to oblige them as they pleased.
It is not ok for anyone to hit anybody because of dis-obedience's, especially your wife or husband. God will hold you accountable on Judgment Day!

You hear of this happening all the time in the middle east and now in Canada.
I have friends who are Muslim and there is no where in their religion that it says that it is ok to hit your wife or anyone else for that matter.
It is people that misinterpret their religion or try and change it to suit themselves who do these horrible things like the jihad.
There is nowhere in the Koran that says to kill people in the name of Allah.
If read and interpreted properly it is similar to other forms of holy scriptures.
It is a very peaceful religion until the extremists take it and blow it all out of proportion.

Muslims like Christians are divided in a great number of different believes. Some accept hitting the wife, some not

Because the Muslim religion says it is his right and duty, by being Muslim or marrying a Muslim she agrees to it.

Muslims are funny. I have known lots of them. they speak of peace all the time, yet they are more violent than any one else i have known. They would say "bless you brother" then turn and scream "he is a raciest, he hates me for who I am"
I don´t believe it is right for any one to hit any one else. NO, not right for a man to hit a woman, and NO, not right for a woman to hit a man. God did not intend for us to use each other for punching bags.
God created Man in his image. God made all men equal. Man Kind meaning both men and women. in my belief, it takes both a man and a woman to make a whole, and neither is greater than the other :)

It isn't. That is a very common misconception about Islam. The Arabic word used in the Qur'an to explain this situation does not translate well and often gets misinterpreted as beating a woman.
My husband and I are both Muslim and I am treated with much love and respect. I am the most important person in his life and hitting me is not something he would ever do. Muslim men who practice Islam as they should hold all women in their lives in high regard and would never abuse them.

Why do people hit their children when they are disobedient?
Does any of it make any sense? No
No one needs to be hit. It only promotes violence.
But,.....don't just pick on a religion to try to make a point. If you want to do this use the entire human race as an example.

It is not okasy for any man to best (hit) his wife no matter if you are a Muslim, or a Christian
