There have been individuals who have offered their sympathy and support, but who have prevented others from sending them mail.

I am not judging the wisdom of such decisions. But I cannot even send them a "thank you", let alone address any of the concerns they express in an answer as the Question format forbids this (and Y!A is pretty sticky about censoring such questions).

There are a few I'd have written if not for this difficulty.

What advice can you offer?

I suppose you would have to write a thank you in the form of a question.

What utter nonsense. You may ask anything provided you frame the question in a reverent manner.
If you put aside your ego and it's need to put some of us down for the time it takes to type in a question, I see no impediment. The problem is that there are people here who have a need to vent their venom and we poor sods at Y questions end up the unwilling targets.

I have not experienced that as yet. I'm not sure I know what you are talking about. Sorry.
