Why not question your religion? How do you even know if it's true or not without questioning? You have a brain in your head, don't you think that if God exists, he/she would want you to use it instead of a book 2,000 years old? Please, no angry answers, I'm dead serious? Why do Christians shelf common sense when it comes to introspective questions about God & the bible?

P.S. I used to be a Christian and I didn't call anyone any names, for the record.

I don't see why God would care if we question our religious faith. If it IS true, He would have no worries of us questioning it because we would only find that it is indeed true and it would strengthen our faith. If it ISN'T true, then He would still be happy because we would then be able to explore and search for what IS true! :)

I don't know! I never have been offended, but I know some are! Religion is very personal. To get into any discussion is a waste of everyone's time if you really don't know the person. I don't try to talk anyone into religion and I appreciate those around me, to show me the same respect, and not to try to talk me out of mine! No matter what one believes in-- it's good to hear the views of others--We can learn so much from another--that at the time-- we may think we have nothing in common with!
The Bible is a book that just one sentence --10 people will say that it means 10 different things ---who's to say who's right?
The Ten Commandments is one area that everyone seems to agree on. Trying to follow that teaching helps us to be a better person to all those around us! Not easy to do though!

I can see that you are lost . Did you not know he left the book for the world. It's like a road map read it and follow it. I never get angry at the word of God. Sorry you have a closed vision to the word. Look at it this way If you were sick and dying would you want prayers from a christian or a non believer? When something bad happens the first thing you say is OH, my God. Why? call him if you don't believe in him. Offended no , The God I serve does not need to be defended He's Alpha and Omega. Common sense would tell you that you can't do any thing on your own. You were not even born on your own.

I personally am not bothered or offended by a question that is seriously up for proper discussion. The problem is that probably 95% or more of the questions in that regard are not actually there to foster any serious thought or anything, but just simply there to be rude and obnoxious toward Christians.

When I see questions that are decent and such, I will read them, think about them, ponder them, etc.. But when I see the ones that say "you're a moron for believing" and stuff like that.. That's when I get offended. It's not there to have a person challenge their faith even.. It's there just to be rude, etc.

Your question is quite fair.. But I do hope that you will see why it is that people get upset.. since 95% or more, as I said, of questions seem to be just there to be rude or whatever.

Not all Christians respond that way. I for one will attempt to answer all of your religious questions in a straightforward and clear manner, without resorting to using the phrase: "God's ways are not our ways" when I don't know a particular answer. I feel this is a cheap fallback position people throw out there when they don't know the answer.

But you are wise to question. You will gain a deeper understanding this way. Yes, many people (not limited to Christians, or religious people in general, but also scientists, advocates, etc.) get offended when you call into question something they have dedicated their entire lives to.

This is because people generally don't like to be corrected or questioned about their core beliefs. For they have built their entire lives around the core. It is their own pride that prevents them from looking at it objectively.

What is on your mind today, I wonder? You obviously feel common sense and Christianity do not comport. Ask away, you have piqued my own curiousity.

I am not offended by serious, reflective questions. I think those who are may not be mature in their Christianity. Those Christians just need a little time for growth and they will come to see that studying and questioning will actually increase faith. They are afraid that if they ask questions, the answers will damage their faith because they are new to the experience. Try not to judge them because they are learning. The ones who are totally disrespectful are either not true Christians or Christians who do not understand their calling at all.

The Bible is very important to us. It is frequently insulted on this forum and without just cause. It is a collection of writings from men whom we believe were inspired by God. In essence it is a letter from God to His loved ones. I will turn to it because I believe it has purpose and wisdom; I believe its guidance is relevant and irreplaceable. Others are free to disagree, it is the disrespect that tends to offend.

If you question something you believe in whole heartidly then you don't have true faith.
Having faith is knowing that what you believe is real and there is no questioning, what if.
God gave us a Bible to read and follow so we can go to Heaven and be with Him again one day. It is over 2000 years old but the messages stay the same and what God means is the same!

Some Christians do get offended by negative or "wild" questions because the asker doesn't really want to know. The asker is usually just trying to ruffle feathers and aggrivate the beleivers in attendance. Beleivers are fine without anyone testing their choices, because our faith is tested everyday in this world.

I find some questions in here crazy, of course. They aren't really looking for an answer to help them understand, they just hate people or hate people who have found peace in Jesus Christ.

I am patient with this group, since I understand that the greatest resistors to the Son, are usually the greatest servants in the end. They tend to give themselves completely to the Lord and bring great testimony to others about how low they felt and ashamed they were of their behavior.

If I can leave you with a gentle summarization to respect your question, it is this...People who believe in Christ have been touched in a special way and give their life to HIm. They don't give it a try....they give up their whole life! IN return, He gives them eternal life.

Why the Bible? It is a written account of life in this world 5600 years ago in the Old Testament, then 2007 years accounts in the New Testament. We beleive in this because it was handed down from generations ago and written on wood, paper, stone, etc because there were no computers or cameras to capture it, of course. No sarcasm intended.

I respect your asking, but once you beleive, you will know the truth (without questioning) and the truth shall set you free!

You can't apply common sense to matters of faith. It is not common sense to believe that a Man was born of a woman, but was the Son of God, was crucified, died, was buried, and then rose again. If it were, wouldn't we all be Christians? Even the men that knew Jesus personally had doubts! Faith is a thing that either you have or you don't, and you can't "reason" most people into it (although allegedly that is how C.S. Lewis came to believe). BUT having said that, God wants us to question Him. He can handle our doubts, and he wants us to question--that is part of why he made us sentient beings with free will. He could have made a species of robots to blindly worship Him. But He wanted to love us, and for us to love Him in return for all that He is.

I think people get so offended, because questions like that are posted every five minutes on this site. I feel that everyone should just leave each other alone, if you don't believe fine..that's your business, don't try to convert me, and same goes for if you do believe that's fine, they shouldn't try to convert you either. I don't mind the asking of questions but when it becomes repetitive it gets rather annoying. Not angry just respectfully answering your question.

The same reason you'd be offended by us questioning or "belittling" what you believe in.

P.S. Atheist (assuming you are one), tend to rely on themselves, friends and family, right? So basically you come to some sort of conclusion that what you believe is evidence for the truth. Sweetie not only do we rely on ourselves to a certain extent but we too rely on friends, family and yes the Almighty God above all. Face it we can't conceive why you can't understand and vice versa. Science can only explain so much and I know science is knowledge and that knowledge comes from God. Now on to the bigger fish we need to fry....Are you smart enough to know you need a Savior? If that's too deep how about the cure for AIDS and cancer, have you found that cure yet?. Much love and God bless.
