You could try bringing a younger cat into your home to help get her to play again. How old is she? The older she is the less she is probably going to want to play.
Get some new toys for her and rotate them every few days. Cats get bored very easily, so every time you switch up the toys, they think they are new again. My cats love the stuffed mice with catnip in them. Makes them go crazy!
Thanks for the question, my kitty is overweight too and I need to get her on a diet as well!

Exercise is all well and good, but diet is going to be the key. For one thing, your cat will feel more like playing one's she's slimmed down. Not only that, but if you're overfeeding your cat won't feel much like moving. When I cut back on Poppy's food, she became more active - even if only when running to the kitchen every time I get up!
Anyway, check out these articles on obesity and the list of recommended foods. Getting a cat to lose weight can be quite simple and pain free. It doesn't have to mean starving them or buying expensive diet food. In fact, many light foods cut calories by cutting back on the good stuff - protein and fat - and increasing the carbs.
If you feed food that is actually good for them, nature will do the rest.

Let's start with diet. Make sure you're feeding a good quality (Purina, Science Diet, IAMs, Eukanuba) cat food. Then take it to the light/diet formula. From there, look at the back of the bag, look at how much to feed for what she SHOULD weigh, and feed the smaller end of the range. It's better to feed twice a day. If you're giving treats, take some food away to compensate. That will make a big difference.
Exercise...laser pointers, get a toy with bells and feathers on the edge of a stick, or something for her to chase around. If you have stairs in your house, make her go up the stairs to eat.
OH, yeh, does she go outside? If she does, she may be eating animals outside, that'll also account for some extra calories. And another thing to think of if she does, is worms. Worms can sometimes make their bellies look big. Take a stool sample to your vets and have it checked.
Good luck :)

The best way to get a cat to exercise is to get it to play - you can use string and toys, but they really love chasing the light from a laser pen.
Diet is very important in slimming down animals. Overweight cats are not going to get slim from exercise if they are fed on things like Felix, Whiskas, Fancy Feast - all bad quality foods. What are you feeding yours on, and how much?

GET A LASER POINTER!!!! I have a cat that developed a pooch after she got fixed. Well, my hubby and I got a laser pointer. We move it all over the place and our three cats run after it as if their life depended on it. They love chasing it, swatting at it....it's great! Do it for like 10-15mins a day, that should do the trick. Also, watch her food intake. Feed her twice a day--morning and night. That's it. They dont even need wet food and MOST dry food is a bunch of crap anyway with no real nutritional value. Hope this helps.

Ignore the person who told you to change his diet to Purina, Science Diet, Iams etc. Those brands are terrible for pets. Just read their ingredients on the package, rice, corn gluten meal and by products instead of meat. They are high in carbohydrates so your cat eats lots of it and thus gets fat. Make sure not to feed your cat any table scraps, milk, etc. Give him plenty of water and switch to a better brand like California Natural, Innova, Felidae, Solid Gold, Nature’s Variety Prairie, Wellness, Wysong, Chicken Soup for the Cat Lover’s Soul, Merrick, Life’s Abundance, etc. They have real meat in them. I let my cats play outside everyday for a little while when I come home from work and that keeps them in shape. I rotate their food so that they don’t get bored or addicted to one particular brand of food but always buy them the good quality brands I mentioned.

Try playing with her for about 10 minutes at a time 3 times a day. Wad up a piece of paper and toss it out to her. Experiment with the plastic milk container pull strips. They like those things. Get an old sock or pair of pantyhose and stuff it with catnip, tie up the loose end and let her go to town. As you experiment with different ways to play you will automatically think up new games. You could also hide small portions of kibble around the house so that she has to "hunt" them down. Also check with your vet to see how much she should be eating. Good luck and enjoy your play sessions. I know kitty will!

I bought one of those lasers. My cats go crazy over chasing it. I can only handle about 15 minutes of it, but they're definitely running around chasing it the entire time. My vet recommended a light food. Helped my big guys lose a few pounds as well.

Get a chasing toy, feathers on a ribbon. Play with her.
Get her some lower calorie cat food. They have it.
