Exercise. The spiral that has you headed down when you are going through a period of depression is made worse when you feel like doing nothing so you do nothing and you feel lethargic and useless. Forcing yourself to exercise boosts esteem, lets you work out you body, which releases feel good endorphins and it's much harder to dwell on things if you are engaging in a slow jog. Also, the positive effect on health and looks can be a confidence booster. Listen to good music and get out of the house.

I have been suffering from post partum depression for the past one year when I gave birth to a baby boy. I couldn't stop thinking about how my husband loves him more than me and how things might be better if he wasn't born at all. Thus, I stayed away from him because I knew that I might do something I will regret for the rest of my life.
Almost instantly I went to a therapist and convince them that I need help. Among other things, I've tried herbal supplements and other book to treat depression but nothing works like the Depression Free Method. So now I'm proud to say I'm one of the happiest mother in the world. My husband loves us both very much and I thank the Lord for the blessing he gave us.
Depression Free Method?

I just heard something interesting pertaining to depression. Supposedly the FDA is trying to take Kava off the market because it is interfering with medication like Prozac and other anti-depression medication. I have used Kava personally and I think it works. I get it from a company called amazon herbs (its called kavazon on the website), but you can get it from any health food store. I believe most things can be cured naturally. I would also go with some of the suggestions above. Get a hobby, start to exercise, volunteer; I find when you help other people and stop concentrating on your own problems it actually helps you and other people.

Unfortunately the only way to confirm a diagnosis of depression is to see your dr. But that doesn't necessarily mean that they will automatically send you to a psychiatrist or psychologist. The primary care physician may be able to help with this instead. In the mean time ask them about trying B Complex which is very good for helping mood disorders such as depression.
But please see your primary care physician. When I had some issues with anxiety it was my gynecologist that I went to for help and she was a very big help to me so that's why I'm saying your primary care physician if you have, especially if your insurance is the kind that requires it before taking any other steps.

Chocolate, Shopping for things you will use(not clothes for special occasions only), helping others...like a personal Samaritans thing, get involved in websites where you meet people such as myspace, bebo and hi5. Eat healthy food, exercise, you probably won't feel like doing this but once you start you'll feel better, dairy products, food that doesn't contain much salt, sugar, sweeteners, preservatives and acid. Get sex-toys, go to a music concert, play bingo, talk to Samaritans, discover download.com, play yahoo pool at http://play.yahoo.com , sign up for a magazine subscription, swear out loud at the TV, sing the songs you listen to, watch south park, go on youtube and search for boro pat, thats all the recommendations I have, and stop caring about what other people think, they like you more when you be yourself anyway, doesn't sound likely but it works

well i know it may not seem that fun but to cure it really the best thing is to go to a phycriastrist because they will give you perscription medicine that will cure it and help and that is the only way to get it. also maybe if you had someone to talk to when you are feeling sad. like whenever you feel depressed have a good friend to be there to listen and help you out. that would help me.

I have depression and I tried the yoga, rest, etc.....and I ended up going on Zoloft. It is the wonder drug. I take the minimal dose of 50 mg and I have never felt great in my entire life. Only use it if you have thoughts of suicide or feel you can't get out of a rut.

Exercise of all types has been shown to raise levels of "feel good" chemicals in your brain, which can make you feel better. You can also find new hobbies that bring you pleasure in life...reading, writing about your feelings, etc.
