I left the day after I was processed at MEPS; it depends on what you negotiate with the recruiter.

Well, you didn't specify a service. Since you said bootcamp, I assume you mean Navy or Marines, but I'll answer in general terms.
It all depends on how quickly they can get you a slot. For active duty, once you join the Delayed Entry Program, you can go at anytime, but you have to be shipped within 365 days. For the Guard and Reserve, there is no DEP, but you do have to complete your basic training within 365 days. You can either go to your AIT/Tech School/A-School/MOS Training immediately afterwards, or you can come back to your unit, and drill each weekend until a class opens up.

You go to Boot Camp or Basic Training immediately after being processed. You may enter the Delayed Enlistment Program (DEP) for up to 1 year before going though. Once processed at the MEPPS though, you're leaving straight from there to wherever your Basic will be.

After signing up for the Army, it was about 3 months before leaving for Basic. Once there, it was about another week of processing before we actually went into Basic Training.
But my Basic was 18 weeks with no AIT at the end

I joined the navy on a delayed enlistment program back in 1980, and it was 6 months before I reported to basic. I'm not sure what type of programs they have now, so the best thing is to talk to a recruiter and if you decide to join, GET EVERYTHING IN WRITING!!!!!! Not that they'd intentionally lie to you, but having proof of promises is a good policy!

Depends on you. When I enlisted in the Air Force, they let me attend a semester of college before I was shipped off. Basically, I enlisted in Aug of 2000, and didn't go to basic training until Jan 2001
A recruiter is the best source for your specific situation.
A word of caution, be very very wary of what a recruiter promises you, they love to "stretch the truth"

I would tell them soon as possible to get it done and over with. Usually they try scheduling everthing for schooling. Sooner the better tho because from now till then your wasting time, know what i mean. Good luck to ya and god bless ya when times get hard and you dont want to be there and stick it out.

my stepson enlisted last week.. and he reports to Navy Boot Camp in November.
you can delay shipping out up to 12 months. when exactly you ship mainly depends on when there is a slot open in the school for the job you pick.
