With the present rate of "my god is better than your god" and headstrong justification about one's religion, does this section have any spirituality left ? If yes, how long it will take before in this section only religion will remain devoid of any spirituality.

Joe, I read it before and did so after reading your one liner, Unable to understand what offended you.
Steve, it is not only Christianity vs. atheists. Sure, Christianity, having the largest following and being the most successful at the moment, attracts more cat calls but R&S is more like a free for all.
All those who feel that spirituality is still there - Thanks, we need positive attitude to keep this section habitable.

I have to agree with you.... there is a lot of bashing going on. And I really don't get it. Aren't we all supposed to be rational human beings, who are tolerant of everyone else's opinions?

Everyone has a right to their belief system and their opinion. And a true Christian or spiritual person of whatever belief system, should allow that person to believe what they will, and if need be, respectfully disagree.

Would I like everyone to become a Christian... yes, if they truly believe! And I'd even like them to become Lutherans! But, at the end of the day, I just hope they are happy and healthy, that they treat others well, and that they have found some sort of guide for their life.

Peace!

Spirituality is the defining nature of religion. Without spirituality there could not be any kind of religion; only a materialistic (and skeptical) science of the world.
We may distinguish between two main kinds of spirituality: those of Salvation Theology and Bestowal Theology: the apophatic tradition (negation: the absolute unknowability of God) and the kataphatic tradition (affirmation: God the Creator can be revealed and known, by way of analogy, through images, symbols and concepts from experience). The theology of salvation can give us the feeling of being rescued by God. But, fixing God in time like this, can lead to us seeing the world as a purely evil place; distrusting ourselves as wholly depraved. The theology of blessing can give us the vision that God's mysterious splendor is everywhere. But, spreading God out in time like this, can lead to us seeing ourselves as co-creators with God; implying that the world is solely good, and consequently we are never quite sure of our own true identity; since, our beliefs are continuously being updated and changed by new events and insights.
Thus, the main problem in religion is how to balance these two kinds of spirituality. Both the world and ourselves are both good and bad; and, if we take a theistic, rather than a nihilistic position, then we must say that the good will eventually out-weigh the bad in the world, at some time in the future, or at the end of time.

I am still here. As long as I am here pointing out that there is more then one way to live and be happy with life...spirituality will never vanish from r&s. I won't let it. It is to much a part of who I am.

For those of you that think Athiests are trying to make spirituality vanish. Know that I am one. Spirituality does not come soley from a relationship with the Christian god.

For the most part, it vanished long ago. However, not entirely. Some of the droplets do sparkle...

From time to time, people do ask genuinely useful questions on here. I asked one myself a while back, and got many very kind and helpful and encouraging answers. However, it's becoming more and more rare.

Honey, Spirituality is alive and well in R&S. I'm just speaking for myself, but I think we're just pickier about which questions we answer. Since we're driven by Spirituality, we don't give a rat's a** about all the argumentative religious questions.

No matter what.... there is always a small flame at the least of good... of hope... of love... of sprituality left. So it will never be completely devoid of spirituality, maybe just hard to find.
