Do you think he's talking about the physical nation of Israel or spiritual Israel?

I don't mean to exclude people of other religions or people who have no religion but I just wanted a Christian view on the scripture. Thanks.

All Israel saved? Spiritual Israel (Rom. 2:28-29; 9:6-8; Gal. 4:28). You say, "No, it says all Israel." Very well. If in the future, the total generation of Jews living at that time were saved, neither would that be all Israel. It would only be one generation of Israel. Who knows the figures, but it could very well be that the remnant of all Jews saved from the time of Peter until Jesus returns is a larger number of Jews than those Jews alive in any one generation. It seems much more in harmony with Rom. 9-11 and all of Scripture to interpret "all Israel" as "all spiritual Israel of all the ages" rather than "all the Israel that is alive at or near Jesus' second coming."

Paul has used the word both ways...

Israel according to the flesh being physical descendants of Abraham
the Israel of God being believers

I would lean toward believing someday all Jews will have their eyes opened abd believe in Jesus the Jewish Messiah.... however... Paul also has a phrase 'not all Israel is Israel'

Romans 9:6
It is not as though God's word had failed. For not all who are descended from Israel are Israel.

Romans 9:27
Isaiah cries out concerning Israel: "Though the number of the Israelites be like the sand by the sea, only the remnant will be saved.

It has to mean the nation Israel. Paul is talking about the Christian church (in grafted branches Rom 11:17) in the previous passage, then v. 24 "natural branches"-that can not be anyone but Israel.
It can only mean 1 of 2 things:
1-all Israelites ever born, or
2. all Israelites alive at Christ's second coming.

Spiritual Israel, because when the Israelites did not accept Jesus as their Savior, God disowned the literal nation of Israel.
" By 70 C.E., God no longer viewed the natural Jews as his chosen people. Jesus showed that God had rejected that nation and would let its capital city, temple, and system of worship come to an end. (Matthew 23:37–24:2) God chose a new nation, spiritual Israel. (Acts 15:14; Romans 2:28, 29; Galatians 6:16) It was composed of men and women chosen out of all nations and anointed with holy spirit. (Matthew 22:14; John 15:19; Acts 10:1, 2, 34, 35, 44, 45) Some years before the attack by Cestius Gallus, Peter wrote to “the ones chosen according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, with sanctification by the spirit.” Such spirit-anointed ones were “a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation.” (1 Peter 1:1, 2; 2:9) God would take such chosen ones to heaven to reign with Jesus.—Colossians 1:1, 2; 3:12; Titus 1:1; Revelation 17:14."

Paul was speaking about the spiritual house of Israel. All of Israel (believers) will be saved. Technically speaking, we (I assume you are christian, correct me if I'm wrong) are also a part of the spiritual nation of Israel. We believe in the messiah for our salvation and are connected to the old testament as much as the new testament. And I'm pretty sure that God doesn't care if someone calls themself a Jew or a Christian as long as they accept Jesus as their messiah (savior).

selfnoself - he is in Romans 11

If you read the whole chapter the passage answers your question.

For those of you saying that Israel refers to "spiritual Israel" your reading that into the text because of your preconcieved notions. Read Romans 11 where the text is in question. It talks about after all the Gentiles have been added then God will remove the blindness from Jacob which represents all 12 tribes not just Judah (the Jews). Please people try reading what it says before you overlay your lie of the church replaces Israel nonsense over the top of it. The whole chapter disproves that whole concept. WE BECOME PART OF ISRAEL. Got it? Most likely not you never really want to listen to the truth. REPENT!

John spoke of the Pharisees (physical Israelites)when he was giving baptisms. They would watch and listen to him at this time chiding themselves for being the flesh and blood seeds of Abraham. He spoke of a time when there would be spiritual seeds of Abraham as well as physical ones. He said "trees" that didn't bear good "fruit" would be hacked and thrown into the fire (regardless of their rooting(lineage)). He was speaking of the coming New Covenant with spiritual Israel. This is the "Israel" that recieves the salvation Paul spoke of. Salvation is eternal (spiritual) IRREGARDLESS of ethnicity. When we become followers of Jesus we become spiritual Israelites. This means that "There is neither Jew nor Greek (Gentile), there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus".

Where did he say that? I think that he meant all Christian because Israel is God's loved people and when you accept Jesus into your heart you become one of his people. Through Jesus we are saved. I would really need to know the context he used it in though to give you an intellegent answer. lol

He was probably talking about the literal nation of Israel. They were being persecuted and he wanted to give them a ray of hope.
