Couple of reasons...one, most guns with an exposed magazine (the proper word for 'clip') also have a forward grip to hang onto...when you have that, why grab the mag? Also, gripping the magazine may cause it to become 'unseated' i.e. firmly inserted into the magazine well; if that happens, the weapon could misfeed rounds, and jam.

Gun clips: little instruments that bolt onto the area of compact pistols so they are able to clip right into a individual's pants pocket. Ammunition clips: en bloc clips, stripper clips, finished moon clips, and the different piece of metallic designed to hold distinctive cartridges to feed into the mag or chambers of a firearm, many times in one action. Ammunition mag: the area of a gun that holds the ammunition. those may well be detachable or essential, based upon the firearm. yet definite, this is criminal to purchase any of those. Gander Mountain or different shops might elect to refuse to sell to you in case you're under a undeniable age, although.

If you hold your gun by the magazine, it can (will)cause it to become misalligned with the bolt and rails, causing a nose-down type jam. These SUCK to clear. With the magazine setting in the well the way it was designed to, it will feed like it should. If you hold it at a different angle, the bolt will eventually wear the feed lips, and it'll never be right again.

It's not a clip, it's a Magazine.
You don't hold them, because they are not handles.
Because they are removable, there's usually only a little catch holding them to the gun, which means they wobbble and wiggle and can come loose while shooting them. Could cause jams this way, or the magazine could come off completely.

all these answers are correct and no buts about it --- but there is one gun that does use the MAGIZINE WELL as a grip namely the Uzi which has the mag inserted in the grip-- and then there are submachineguns that has the mag inserted in a forward mag well that is used for a forward grip -- that being said NEVER hold a weapon by the mag as the jams and loose mags effectively render the weapon an odd shaped club (not good in a fire fight) hope this answers your question

You might cause the gun to jam by holding onto the magazine as it fires.

Putting force on the magazine can cause it to be oriented inside the action of the weapon in a way that would cause misfeeds or other malfunctions.
It is designed to do its job without someong grabbing at it, so that's the way to leave it.

It makes the magazine move which causes it to jam. Hold the stock, or buy a vertical grip.

The clip was made to hold ammo, nothing more nothing less....It was never designed to be utilized as a substitute for the forearm or stock.... It also would interfere with your capability to shoot the firearm accurately........

Don't hold it by the clip. The clip could come loose and your gun could fall and the barrel could plug with dirt.
