I have been debating on which Buddhist Temple to go to... Thervada or Mahayana. What is the difference? I don't know any Buddhists so I don't have any resources. On one of my other questions, I was told to go to a meditation center. What's done at a meditation center? The obvious answer would be meditation goes on, but I mean what else? Can I get info? I would really like to know where to go to talk to someone about it. Any thoughts? Thanks!!!

The difference in Theravadan vs. Mahayana places is simply the philosophical approach to the Buddha's wisdom. YOU must choose what makes the most sense to YOU and what you like.

Meditation centers are simply places to gather, sometimes in absence of a local temple, to learn Buddhism, how to meditate, share a sense of community, take any lay vows or commitments you wish to or take formal "refuge", find a teacher, etc. Both places are equally of value, in the sense that you can talk to someone who would be willing to teach you what you wish to know.

Check out the various paths of philosophical approach to Buddhism and pick what works for you and go with it. Be patient with yourself and learn at your own pace, find friendly people to chat with, etc. There are tons of websites so once you choose your path, you can go with whatever works best for you.

Hope this helps a smidge. Edit/add on: Visit BOTH if you want to, or all... temples, Theravadan, Mahayana, meditation centers... explore, find what you seek, don't be afraid.

Why would you go worship statues that are not real? Buddha did not even know where he was going when he died. i invite yo to worship the God who is alive. A God who was not man-mad. Jesus Christ! If you have questions about Jesus email me.
