It's all very new and faddish, they never used to blab on about their "personal relationships" with God before...if it's at all true he's a bit of a promiscuous friend isn't he considering the number of folk claiming this?

Of course I mean promiscuous in the sense of lacking standards of selection; indiscriminate.

Jesus Christ said this:

"Now this is eternal life: that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent."
John 17:3

Quite simply, if you do not have a personal relationship with God through faith in Christ, you are still lost in your sins.

Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.
I John 4:7-8

I'm not sure I am understanding your question.
Are you saying that the idea that a person can have a close and personal relationship with God is new and faddish?
Because, if you are, you obviously haven't read Genesis. That idea is as old as Adam and Eve in the Garden....
Are you telling these good people that folks never spoke about their relationship with God before?
Obviously, that is not true. Moses spoke about it, and so did all of the prophets in the O.T. David certianly talked about it, and wrote about it. So did his son, Solomon. Jesus taught His disciples something brand new...He taught them that God is our Father, or Abba...and Paul also clarifies that relationship.
The apostles certianly spoke about their close relationship with God, in fact, they spoke about it all the time, even in prison.
Surely, you are not trying to put a sexual spin on the Christian's close relationship with God? Because that would be showing those li'l green horns hiding under your skull...in other words, you would sound just a tad, ahh...jealous...with heavy overtones of vindictiveness. Since you are not a jealous or vindictive person, I am sure I must have misunderstood your last remark.
Perhaps you are merely underestimating the great love of God. We know that parents can certainly love more than one child at a time...why would you suppose that God has less capacity for love than the average Mom?
Maybe you see it as a new fad, because, since people have had access to the internet, you are seeing more and more of how Christians think.
I guess when you are involved in a relationship as glorious as a one on one relationship with the Lord of the Cosmos, it is a bit difficult not to "blab on" about it. You are excited...even consumed by your great joy, and, naturally, you want to share it with others.
I suppose, after we've been insulted and told how offensive we are often enough, we may quit trying to introduce people on the internet to our Awesome God...maybe...one day.
But it will be a terrible day for the internet when we do.

What does the Bible state that Jesus will say on Judgment day if someone is bound for Hell? "Depart from me for I do not know you." That verse implies relationship.
Christianity whether dubbed evangelical, radical, charismatic, whatever....it is more than a feeling or a claim. It is an ongoing, intimate relationship with the Savior.
If this kind of open, flagrant love of Jesus offends anyone or threatens the foundations of their long held beliefs, then I am afraid the problem does not rest on Christians. That is one of the biggest things God tells us to do in the Bible with the Great Commission - tell everyone about Him and snatch as many souls as we can from the fires of Hell. Maybe, you do not appreciate the method, but the effort should be applauded!

If a person don't have a personal relationship with Jesus then they have nothing. He is our mediator between God and us. He is someone we can go to and talk with. He is someone who knows what we are going through here on earth. He is a friend to all that ask Him into their hearts. He is watching over us daily, and is there through think and thin. God never promised that we would not go through misery, but that He would be there though it all. Religion is man made. Christian is to be Christ like. He is a personal God. He has many children. He is a great Father. It is not faddish to have a personal relationship with God. It is the way.

Because we live in a "me first", "gotta take care of yourself" society and everyone thinks that everything is about "me". So, the "MY personal relationship with God" attitude has taken place of what God wants us to focus on- His universal sovereignty! While a person's relationship with God is important, one must remember that we are "good for nothing slaves" and that "what we have done is what we ought to have done" (Luke 17:10). Satan has called into question God's sovereignty and our integrity to keep our faith (Genesis chapters 1&2 and Job 1&2). That is the primary issue that God has been dealing with ever since Satan's challenge right down to this day. A person with a good relationship with God would recognize this and not make everything be about "me".

I am not sure how OLD you are, BUT I am 43, and Christians have been talking about their "personal relationship with God" since I can remember.
You've got an issue if you confine the word "personal" to something sexual.
As a parent... I have a "personal relationship" with my 3 kids, on very different levels, taking into account their intrests etc. Nothing twisted or disloyal about that.
Nothing NEW at ALL....

They really do have a relationship with him.
In a relationship you have emotion such as love sadness fear and happiness. Someone that you can lean on. So there is their relationship. I also think that the reason you are know hearing about Christians telling you more about there relationship is b/c you are hanging around more people who having that experience.
People are telling you about there experience so that you might have those feelings as well someone you can trust in that will never let you down and who will always love you

That is what Christianity is all about. To be restored in relationship with God. There is nothing new & faddish about this. But it is easier to write it on Yahoo answers & questions because no one is yelling at you when you are trying to write it. Unless some abusive drunk husband comes into the room & complains.

God is big and can be friends with all those who obey God. Jesus said, "I call you friends.". God is my friend.
