There argument is too easy for those against it.
They have broken US laws to get here
They put their children in our schools to the tune of 10K per child that has to be paid for by tax payers.
They clog the emergency room for medical care that they do not pay for which is putting our medical facilities in even bigger financial jeopardy.
They make up 25% of our prison population
They are bringing diseases into this country that we had wiped out.
They are a drain on our social services.
They cost the American Public 60 billion dollars a year.
They send over 50 billion tax free dollars back to their home country.
They do not pay taxes.
If they do, they are using stolen identities.
They drive without insurance, which raises our insurance rates.

This is a highly complex area. You used the word "immigrant" without prefacing it with with "illegal." There are many good reasons for naturalizing legal immigrants. Firstly, lack of a path to citizenship might cause high-value immigrants not to bother immigrating. Secondly, it gives immigrants a stake in the country. In the USA, non-citizens cannot legally vote in federal elections, nor in most states. Thirdly, it improves social cohesion. A legal immigrant is welcome up to a point but there is still that feeling of being an outsider. Trust me - I know because I am a legal immigrant currently awaiting citizenship. Legal immigrants frequently come to the USA with a good education and can do jobs which enhance life for all in this country.
There are no grounds for making illegal immigrants citizens. It rewards a criminal act, it encourages others to follow the same path and it is going to cause a lot of annoyance amongst those of us who have complied with US immigration law because that is the right thing to do. The fact is (as another poster has observed) the USA cannot fund the rest of the world all by itself - nor should it. American wealth has been created by generations of hard work and entrepreneurial flair. Whilst we do have some responsibilities to other nations in need there is no requirement for us to allow people who have sponged off those here legally (citizens and immigrants alike) to become citizens.
Now some specifics. My expertise is income tax so here are a few thoughts. Many illegals wortk under several names. Many stay under the radar and pay no tax whatsoever. However, if they have a child born in the USA, they can enjoy food stamps. The parent does not have to demonstrate legal residence to get them for the child (who is a citizen by virtue of being born here).
Those who do pay tax (and there are some) frequently file under multiple names and SSNs. The effect of that is manifold: it gives multiple standard deductions; it reduces the rate at which tax is paid; EIC can be claimed more than once.

I wonder if all these people who shout ILLEGAL realize that the people who hire these immigrants are also doing something illegal. The people who buy products made or picked by these people, from a head of lettuce to a home, are supporting an illegal act. A hundred and fifty years ago it was illegal for a slave to escape and it was also illegal to help a slave escape. We're debating reforming laws that don't work. Many people believe that like slavery they are unjust. These laws are broken by a lot more people than the immigrants.

First reason: They are criminals.
We have laws in this country that citizens must respect. There is a set procedure to legally immigrate to the U.S.. Any other laws they're not too fond of, and would rather not obey?
Second reason: The only groups that want them here are the illegals, the church, and corporations that would rather not pay a competetive wage.
The illegals want in for better wages than they cant get in their essentially third world countries of origin. The church wants them in for obvious reasons: Mostly hispanic, guess what religion? They fill the pews and, more importantly, fill the collection plate. And of course, the lovely corporations that have been outsourcing American jobs can save money by having low wage workers come here, rather than setting up shop in a low wage country.
Could go on for hours, but fingers are getting tired.

this is easy, because the people you are talking about are here illegally and breaking the law! they should be punished and deported. In this country, people should not be rewarded for breaking the laws. Look at what is going on in this country. Our social programs are going under, school systems are in disaray, crime rates are high, prisons are overcrowded, health care system is in shambles and the majority of these problems are due to illegal aliens in this country. I dont' have a problem if someone wants to be here legally, we are a country which is based on immigration, but we need to make sure we keep the integrity of the united states and enforce our laws. People should not be rewarded for their negative behaviors. If i do something wrong, i will be punished for it or suffer the consequences for my actions. But in looking at the current bill being debated, it does nothing to promote people being citizens. It makes them legal, but that is it. If they want to become citizens, they have to do all of the things such as leaving and paying fines, so who would do this?? and who will pay for the illegals which are here?? we will. I just don't understand why more people do not see this. To me illegal is illegal. We have laws in this country which will work if they were enforced. The problem is that we don't enforce the laws we have now. So why make new laws which won't be enforced either. We need to stand up for this country. To me an illegal alien policy should be as follows
1. secure the borders. this is the first thing which needs to be done. this means making sure the illegals can't come in illegally and give the border patrol the power to enforce the laws instead of putting them in prison for doing their job which is what is happening now.
2. we need to take the incentive out of being here illegally which means take the money away. We need to heavily fine the companies which hire undocumented workers. There should be a three strikes and you are out rule. This would stop this problem
3. We need to deport the illegals which are here. This could be done in stages. first, send the ones who are in our jails/prisons back. Then start deporting all of the ones who are breaking the laws. Then finally, just start going around and checking on people who are here to make sure they are legal. If we did all of this, we wouldn't have an illegal alien problem
The main thing about illegal immigration is we don't need to change laws which will not be enforeced. Also, when you think about it, we are exploiting all of the illegals to do work for nearly nothing so we don't have to pay as much. if they were american's do you think they would put up with this?? heck no, all you hear about now is there needs to be a higher minimum wage. Finally, if we got rid of the illegals and then put the people who are on welfare to work for a decent wage, we could kill two birds with one stone. We wouldn't have an illegal problem, and we could decrease the amount of people on welfare..

Mexicans are illegal aliens. There is a process to enter .Why should they not obey our laws>They are also importing TB into this country and our Media is not telling you this,TB has been almost totally eradicated along with Polio and Small POX from this country. The politicians don't care ,they want the cheap labor to appease their wealthy friends and take kick backs from the lobbyist. Just like the Congress man that had $500,000.00 in his freezer.
Please vote the next election and split your vote .Don't vote for one party, like they want us to vote .Vote for your choice and vote out incumbents in Congress, they have become placenta and greedy. We need a change.

For the same reason no other country does.
All countries have laws against illegal aliens. The U.S. should be as strict as some countries are (namely Mexico) in enforcing their immigration laws.
Deport all illegal aliens.
Unless they immigrate LEGALLY, they don't belong here.

1. theyre immigrants, and we dont need them
2. people can mow their own damn lawns, we dont need mexicans to do it
3. they dont deserve to be in this country, all citizens already pay their debt to this country through the draft(when its around) and through taxes. immigrants just sit go out and get jobs that pay illegally and they get hurt and the doctors HAVE to help them, then when they realise that theyve got no money and no insurance, they gotta use OUR tax money
4. its our tax money thats paying the border partol thats trying to keep those sneaky snakes outta our country
5. if wenatrualize all the immigrants, then they will have equal rights and it wont do anything, because they will still be taking all the jobs that the REAL AMERICAN working class wants

I'll give you 2 biggies
1) Fairness to others who try to get here legally
2) Because rewarding illegal behavior is unethical.
I could debate for hours on just those two points.
