Why so so many Christans think it's evil to believe we become like God... that we eventually can become gods?
1.To become heirs of God and joint-heirs with Christ, being glorified together (Romans 8:14-18)
2. As sons (and daughters) of God, to inherit all things that the Father has (Revelation 21:7)
3.To become one with Christ, as Christ is one with the Father (John 17:20-23)
4.To sit with Christ on His throne (Rev. 3:21)
5.To receive a glorified, immortal body like the body that Christ has (Philip. 3:21)
6.To partake of the divine nature and be given all things pertaining to life and godliness, receiving glory (2 Peter 1:3-4)
7.To be made - in some way - like Christ when He returns (1 John 3:2)
8.To be made kings and priests unto God and his Father (Rev. 1:6)
9. As spirit children of God, to become partakers of his holiness (Heb. 12:9-10)
10.To be exalted by God (1 Peter 5:6)
11.To become perfect, even as our Father in Heaven is perfect (Matt. 5:48)

Many of you are accusing me of saying we can become EQUAL to God...
I NEVER SAID THAT! I said we can become gods-- not God.

The last scripture you reference says it all... To become perfect... If you are perfect wouldn't you be like unto God? And why is it people can't grasp the fact that we are Father in Heaven's children... that, like any Father, He would want us to obtain what He has.... I don't think people have the concept of eternal life. As if all is done once we leave this earth. Why is it that here on earth we only use 8 - 10% of our brain capacity... why did God create so much more in us... why do people have such a hard time believing that God wants us to progress, to be the best, and to be like him.... isn't that why we were created in His image? I wouldn't be all that great of a father if I told my children they could never acheive what I have acheived... that they could never know the true joy that I know... that they could never create or progress beyond a certain point.... does this sound like a truely loving father?

Because its a superhero fantasy. The women get to be goddesses, but are told they cannot hold the super powers (priesthood) because they must have the babies or they already have the spirituallity the men lack. then the women get all romantic and think the preisthood makes the men a diety and the men will swoop in and save them, but come to find out the pristhood does nothing (I never saw a miracle or a healing when I was a mormon) the women become depressed, but keep popping out the kids and hope for the best when they get their new planet and new earth after this life when they can become goddesses along with other goddesses and share their husband with these women. By then they hope this superpower/preisthood will kick in and have some benefitcial power to them and finally make them happy.

Remember that in the bible it says that you are not to try to go over or surpass or even emulate god simply because you are his son. Furthermore, if you think that Christians get mad it's simply because they believe that they will one day " be by his side and by his thrown " but not takes his place lol. Get it? There is nothing wrong with saying you are going to be with God - But the bible is not telling you that you can become a God. Otherwise... you would have been created out of nothing and by no one but you were " religiously speaking " created by God. The Alpha and Omega - Right?

Why are people so offended that any Father would want His children to become like Him? My earthly, imperfect father wanted me to excel him in any way that he felt he fell short.
Do people think that there is not enough space or matter to go around? Or that God is so egotistical that He must have inferiors around Him eternally?
It makes perfect sense that a loving God would want His children to have the same joy and growth as He has.

In Exodus 22:9, God calls the judges of Israel, "elohim". They weren't the one true God, only representatives of his judgment. Similarly, Moses represented God to the people of Israel. Jesus didn't represent God, he was God in the flesh, yet he was the mediator between God, which is spirit, and man which is flesh. The idea that a mere mortal can "become God" is as fatal as the mistake Satan made in the garden of Eden.

It comes down to a simple principle:
GOD is the Creator and we are HIS creations!
The creation will NEVER become like GOD!
It may sound nice on the surface, but, it is NOT correct. It is, however, possible to have a changed heart that is of GOD.
GOD bless

I have an earthly father. I will never be able to become him, surpass him in existance or creation, but I can become like him. I believe it is the same with our Heavenly FATHER

I'd have to go back to the original greek to see what the word for "gods" was. It may have meant "master" or something else. There is only one God and we may become one with Him when we die but we shouldn't think that we will become "gods".
Sorry if I misunderstood you.

All of what you say may be true. However no one will ever be eternally self-existent in the sense of the only True God.
