By your use of the term "peace be on him," I am assuming that you might be a follower of Islam (but of course I could be wrong). If that is the case, you need to understand that the understanding of Islam and of Christianity are not the same, when it comes to the Inspiration of our respective Holy books. Christians do not generally believe in the same level of verbal inspiration/dictation as do followers of Islam.

The short answer to your question is that the number of the books of the Bible differ among Christians -- If you have a King James Version with 39 books in the Old Testament and 27 Books in the New Testament, then you are dealing with a Bible that is accepted by most Protestants -- and a translation that was made by scholars during the reign of King James I of England. The answer (and the number of the books in the Old Testament) would be different if you were holding a Roman Catholic Bible, or an Orthodox Bible (to name two other groups).

The number of the books of the Old Testament depend on whether the Bible was based on the Greek Septuagint version or the Hebrew version. The Hebrew Version contains 39 books, which are also in the Greek Septuagint. The Greek version contains certain books (such as 1st and 2nd Maccabees) that are not found in the Hebrew Text. This has been a point of contention among Christians since the time of the Protestant Reformation.

Understand that Jesus Christ Himself is not held to have written any book of the Holy Bible. His followers were the ones who wrote the Gospels (which contain His words); and St. Paul wrote most of the Epistles that are the bulk of the remainder of the New Testament. Were these books given by God? All Christians would answer “yes” – however Christianity is diverse. Most Christians do not believe that the Bible was dictated by God to any of the writers, although most Christians do believe that the Holy Book is inspired by God. Most Christians believe that God allowed the writers to use their own words – which is one reason that Christianity from the beginning has allowed the Bible to be translated into new languages.

I'm not sure exactly what you are asking here. The books of the Bible were written by people who had been inspired by God to communicate who He is to people of the world. The New Testament was written by the people who spent time with Jesus while he was on the earth. So no, the Bible was not given to Jesus by God.

Your second question is: Does someone have to believe all of the books of the Bible to be a Christian?- Yes, because Christian faith is based off of what the Bible says. The best religion is the one that brings you closest to God; just remember that, and also remember that even though God most likely DID inspire those people to write the Bible, that it was still written by humans, and therefore contains some errors. Just take it all in a spiritual sense, and remember to spend your life loving other people. Have a fantastic day!

You say Jesus was only sent to the lost sheep of Israel. Have you considered Jesus' words? John 10:16 I have other sheep that are not of this sheep pen. I must bring them also. They too will listen to my voice, and there shall be one flock and one shepherd. Paul was not the first to claim Jesus was God. Isaiah 7:14 Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel. (Immanuel means, "God with us"). Isaiah 9:6 For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Jeremiah 23:5-6 "The days are coming," declares the LORD, "when I will raise up to David a righteous Branch, a King who will reign wisely and do what is just and right in the land. (6) In his days Judah will be saved and Israel will live in safety. This is the name by which he will be called: The LORD Our Righteousness. A main difference between us is that I believe the Bible and you do not. You believe the Quran, and I do not. Logically, one or both are incorrect since the Bible and the Quran disagree with each other on this and other topics. It's interesting to me that Muslims will use the Bible to talk to Christians as evidence about Jesus' humanity. Christians believe Jesus humbled himself and became human, so it's nothing new to us. It's even more interesting that Muslims KNOW Christians believe the whole Bible, but insist we ignore large portions of it. You aren't going to get very far this way. Christians believe that more than just the words of Jesus are inspired of God. The Bible is clear that Jesus is divine. So, the question is, "How do you discern if a book is inspired by God?" I suggest one way to tell is by fulfilled prophesies, because only God can know the future all of the time. Deuteronomy 18:22 If what a prophet proclaims in the name of the LORD does not take place or come true, that is a message the LORD has not spoken. That prophet has spoken presumptuously. Do not be afraid of him.

Jesus was the Living Word. He didn't need a Bible. He read the Old Testament daily though, as He was a Jew and that was their custom. And I believe Jesus was God.

yes there are 66 books in the Bible (the protestant Bible). I personally belief the protestant Bible (KJV, NIV, Amplified, Holy Bible, etc) with 66 books is the correct version. the Catholic has approximately 72 books, and then there's the Orthodox Faith Bible. not too sure about it. (the only one I saw was in a language I cannot read). but i adhere to the Holy Bible (protestant versions).

because the Bible was written in 3 languages (Hebrew, Greek, Aramaic), languages which have many connotations on their verbs and adjectives, translations differ. that's why it's often best to invest in an Amplified version (which gives all the meanings of a word to avoid controversies). for example, the same word in Hebrew for worship (abad) means to work for God, to sacrifice to God, etc.

I wish you would rephrase this. it is hard to interpret. if you're saying "which books were given to Him to preach?", the answer is that He was not given the books. they were His word already. He was prophesied about in many of them. He was the Living Word, the Scripture is the Written Word

the Old Testament was compiled roughly in His day, but the New Testament was finnished by 95 A.D., so 62 years after He had died.

one has to be born again to be a Christian by faith (John 3:3). It is however unwise and an offense to God to believe the Bible is not God's word.

There are a total of 72 books in the original Christian Bible. The Protestants removed asome of the books of the OT. None of these books were given to Jesus. The OT books already existed and the NT books were written after His ressurection. Technically, a Christians does not have to believe any of the books of the Bible as it is Christ who is the incarnate Word and it is He we follow and not any book. However the Church met in the African Synods of the late fourth and early fifth century and decided the books of the Christian Canon. Prior to that time the only books authoritative to Christian teaching were the OT books of the Esssene/diaspora Greek Canon. That is not to say that the writings of the NT were not read but were not considered God's written Word until approved by His Church in Synod and subsequently in Council.

Jesus never had a Bible; no one did in those days, because the Bible as you know it didn't exist yet.

The Bible was put together in the fourth or fifth century, after a council of Catholic bishops convened and debated on which books were to go into the compilation of books to be later known as the Bible; after the reformation, Protestants took out a few books that they didn't agree with (and that contradicted some of their key beliefs), resulting in a Catholic Bible and a Protestant Bible; the Protestant Bible has since been turned into dozens of versions. The King James Version is in archaic Elizabethan English, during the era of the English King James who sought to translate it into the form of English in use during his reign--many people seem to think that this form of the Bible was carried around by the apostles as they hiked around in the hills after Jesus, which is of course both ridiculous and blatantly historically inaccurate. Read up on the history, and you'll find the facts.

No Bible was given to Jesus by God.

Unlike the commandments to Moses, the Bible was not revealed to a prophet in scripture, finalized and made, the word was given to Jesus and he spoke in Gods name, the Bible is a compilation of books and of the spoken word of all prophets, the written history of God and his people and also an edited version of the compilation, because the church has the "rights" to edit as they are "infallible" on it.

Faith and belief in Church and Scripture can only be found in God, but belief in a Christian God does not imply belief in Church or Scripture (as they are).

he wasn't given a BIBLE, he read from the scrolls.

but regardless, you can find the TRUTH in any BIBLE. i happen to use the New World Translation of the Holy Scriptures because it's easy to understand, it's translated as close as possible from the original languages used, AND it doesn't disrespect God like most Bible translations do, by taking His name out of it. There's a reason why God's name is in the Bible over 7000 times!

Well, consider for a moment that all of the books of the bible were written by people who were around during the time. There were literally hundreds of books written. They were compiled into the bible you've become familiar with several hundred years later by a pagan roman emporer. Makes you feel great about your faith, don't it?
