Im getting desperate-have tickets to travel in less than two weeks and have not received my daughters passport -its been 11 weeks! Cannot get an appointment to go to the SF passport office. The tel # provided goes into a 'black hole" I will have to go there without an app. but wondered if anyone has any experience with this?? Thanks.

You will be turned away without an appointment from any federal building. It's been that way for quite sometime as a security measure. Sorry but you have to make an appointment to get in and see someone about a passport issue.

I just booked an appointment with the New Orleans office last night. I am in a similar situation. What I did was set my alarm for 1:00AM and I called the number late at night. The black hole that you sound like you are referring to is the delay between requesting the appt and getting a yes or no. It take 5+ minutes for the voice unit to give you a response so be patient and you should be able to get the appt. As a backup, call your district Congressman and Senator and tell them the problem that you are encountering. You may be suprised that they CAN get your passport rushed along. Be prepared to give them your passport number and your case number if you have one. As a second note, if one of your Congressman or Senators is in an election year you may get a little more help from them in hopes of securing your vote.

I just experienced the same problem and totally understand the frustration of dealing with that terrible automated system they have!! After waiting for 11 weeks and getting nowhere, I called the office of my congressman in my district. I spoke with someone in the office who deals with this all of the time now. He took down my info on monday and responded back to me within the hour. He said they had not even started my passport yet (they can complete them in one day) and that they would complete it and overnight it to me. So my passport arrived on wednesday!!

I would strongly suggest getting in touch with somebody from the office of your congressman to try to help you out because 11 weeks is a long time. Good luck.
