Even if you argue 'well, that's evidence that there MUST have been a global flood', (Which the geology doesn't support.) the fact is that these flood stories - Sumerian and Babylonian - predate the bible. Isn't it a lot more likely that the Hebrews picked up the story along the way and turned it into a myth that would be relevent to them? How can you take it literally when the Sumerians and Babylonians had almost the exact same story but with their gods and their characters?

Some believe Noah's Ark originated from a large flood that inundated a large area near Turkey caused by the collaspe of a geological formation that had supported a lake. This created a situation, if only in that region, that matched the situations described in the Bible.

Geology does support a global flood.
You do not know that the story of Noah's ark was a "myth" before the Hebrews existed.
Actually the flood came about 400 years before the Hebrews existed, but you do not know it was a myth.

Well, its also important to note that nearly all of the bible (including the character jesus) stems from pagan traditions and previous religions, so in effect, they're just believing the same thing accross the board. Nearly all religions are built on other religions, so you can't fault christianity for that... but those who take these myths literally need to step back and evaluate their thought processes. Especially those who deny scientific evidence because they just reeaallly want their religion to be true to word.

If the jury is prepared to believe that there was an universal flood in the first place, when there is nowhere near enough H2O to cover the earth - to mention only one minor objection! - then it's really pretty much pointless to call Gilgamesh as a witness.

because the flood is a FACT and thru the years different cultures have adapted it as it pertains to their culture... the very FACT that the flood story appears in cultures ALL OVER the world independently from one another provides evidence to sustain the FACT that there was indeed a flood of mammoth proportions....
