I'm in the process of losing weight on a low-calorie diet. Recently, I've been eating 2 fat free hot dogs (40 cal each) on whole wheat buns (80 cal each) almost everyday for lunch. It tastes good and with ketchup it's only 250 calories, but is there anything else besides the calories that I should consider?

All answers would be appreciated....thanks!

You can lose weight eating anything, as long as you're within your daily calorie limit. However, there's a lot more to losing weight than simply calories. You really should be looking at the types of food you are eating. What's in these hot dogs? Are they full of additives? Personally, I think you would be much better off with a fresh veggie sandwich with a touch of mustard.

It's a great attempt to eat less calories but you may want to try turkey or veggie dogs when you do eat them. On the other hand I don't think eating 2 hot dogs a day is good for you. You are going to get bored with that routine and there are a lot of different foods you can eat that are going to be really healthy and taste great. I am a big dip fan- I love hummus with veggies, you could even get whole wheat pitas as well. Lentil soup is another really healthy food. Any kind of processed food is going to be bad for you so try switching it up with other fresh choices. Bottom line though, I think you are actually doing youself an injustice because there are so many other things you can eat that are going to be really healthy and tasty. Even grilled chicken salad (done the right way) could have very few calories. If you can't actually identify the body part you are eating then it is not good for you. Try going vegetarian :)

They aren't really considered a "health food" but at the end of the day it is all about burning more calories than you consume as far as weight loss is concerned. Just be careful because even fat free hot dogs are often very high in sodium.

That sounds like a tasty, low cal meal. I'm guessing the hot dogs have a decent amount of protein, but it's worth checking anyway. Also make sure you're getting enough calcium, vitamin C, and vitamin A during the day because I doubt that lunch provides much of that.

A glass of skim milk might be the answer. 80 cal more and probably most of your vitamin intake for the day.

Stop eating hotdogs, keep the whole wheat breads, and add vegies and fruits, eggs, and milk, you can starve yourself and lose weight only to gain it back and more. So then you'll need to lose 20 instead of 15, and next year youll need to lose 30 and so on and so on and so on. Look around you and see that fad diets don't work, pills don't work. It is the good healthy foods that keep your muscles and bones strong. You need to be healthy as well as fit, so exercise too.

good luck

TWO hot dogs for lunch? You'd lose weight faster -- and get used to eating less food (very important!) -- if you only ate one. Maybe with a piece of fruit on the side instead of another hot dog.

Sounds like a reasonable lunch. You can also try soy or vegetarian hot dogs. They are good and very low in fat.

how about the fact that they are heavily processed, especially if they are fat free. also they have lots of chemicals in them like nitrates. yes they do taste good but hot dogs are still bad for you regardless of how many calories. you probably would even be better off eating one of those tofu dogs though they likely dont taste as good.
