You are correct that hearing audible voices is a symptom of schizophrenia. God does not speak in audible words, but in thoughts. When God speaks to me, it is as though a thought came into my head, except that it came from God. It takes lots of discernment and prayer to know when it is God speaking or when it's just your own thoughts. For instance, if it tells you to do something that will hurt yourself or someone else, it's not God. If it is something that is theologically sound and is consistent with the Bible and religion, and is something that you probably would not have been able to think of on your own given your current circumstances and experiences, then it is probably God.

Shame shame shame on all this bickering about whether there is a GOD or not. I wonder what the atheists are going to do when the Christians are all floating through the air escaping what GOD told ALL people would come in the last days - tribulation. We'll be sure to wave bye-bye to them standing there, looking up, pitiful and sad, wishing they had listened when they had the chance. Then they'll have to agree to die by the sword if they try to claim salvation through Jesus. Don't we feel sorry for them? Awwwwwwwwww.
Oh, and brothers and sisters, I'm not mean spirited by any stretch - I just get real sick of them acting like we're some kind of low life, ignorant, inbred, hillbilly types with no ability to think for ourselves.
Atheists, I challenge your 'god' to battle mine any day since you are your own god and God is God!!! I remember something about this from the Bible - God made fire fall from the sky I think or made water catch on fire - something like that. Either way, I wouldn't want to be an atheist when He comes back to get us.

NO! It's called being stupid to mock God. There are different ways to hear God speak to you, first of all you can pray, and God doesn't always speak in an audible voice, He has called my name a few times, the bible says He called Samuel, so yes He can speak in an audible voice, and I have heard Him call my name plenty of times. Also you can read the Bible, lots of times, I find out what to do, by reading the Bible. Sometimes you just know, it's a God thing.

There is a name for the disorder of NOT hearing God speak to you in your heart, it's called pride. I fraternally advise you to listen to the voice of the Lord. May the Lord bless and keep you. May the light of His face shine upon you.
God's and your beast of burden

God speaks to me through a number of ways. Thru another person, thru a verse in the bible, by sitting and being still and listening to His small voice,in Mass, all kinds of ways.

Its not like God physically comes down to you and say "Do this, do that." The holy spirit from god can speak to your mind, body, and soul. Sometimes God can also lead you to do certain things that are in your favor. You will not experience these things unless you come to know Christ. And to make a mockery or to make fun of this will just push you farther from God!

Schizophrenia & Jesus Delusion are in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (IV) which I find to be a much more reliable source of information than a 2000 year old book.

It's not like that - my son has schizophrenia and it's not the same....
God is a still, small voice inside that has a distinct feeling to it.. it's unmistakable when God talks.
I've seen delusional schizophrenics.....and it's not God.
