I am looking to soundproof a room to help reduce the noise my dogs make when they bark. I have an upstairs neighbor who complains about the noise sometimes. What products can I use to soundproof the room? I've heard acoustic foam, egg cartons, and egg crates as suggestions. Do I need to soundproof just the ceiling or the walls as well? If someone can help me out that would be great!

Sheets of foam or Styrofoam on the walls and ceiling are excellent for soundproofing a room and inexpensive compared to specialty products. Installation could be done with just staples, making your neighbor less angry. Just make sure that that you cover it with a durable layer to protect the wall and your dogs.

If you have an apartment I would think twice about the cost of soundproofing. Could you find a place where you can go visit your dogs if you took them somewhere??
How about the muzzles they put on dogs to keep them from biting. It keeps them calmed down and from barking.
You can get them use to wearing them by walking them often and expecting to wear them.
It is just a strap that fits around the nose and buckles so you can keep the dogs head pulled back if he goes too fast. It is something dogs are trained with when they are in obedience school.
Ask your local vet if he has any suggestions. Hope it all works out for you.
I don't think foam is the answer to this delima. I think you have a bigger picture here to look at sweetie. Don't take offense please, you count first with your neighbors and know they have rights too. Good luck! Donna D

There is another issue. The materials you mention are tremendous fire hazards. Some burn easily, some give off gases when heated that could suffocate a person. You could be putting all of your lives at risk by using these products for sound reasons, not to mention breaking your lease and getting kicked out if your landlord finds out.
The better solution is getting training for your dogs to teach them not to bark inside the apartment. This will involve some time, expense, and effort on your part, but it will be safer for everyone involved. (You might tell your neighbor that you are getting training for the dogs to win a few brownie points in the transition period.)

get a bark collar for your dogs. Nothing is more frustrating than having to listen to dogs bark.
