First of all, congratulations!! This is the same guy you liked before right? Glad to hear it worked out! :-)
Your brother probably will find out, people talk so much at school, and no matter how much you reassure him he probably won't like it so just be prepared for a few rough weeks. BUT, this is your life, you have a right to have a boyfriend/friends etc that you choose, so while your brother is just being protective and worried about you, I am sure you can take care of yourself. The best way it to just really play it down, just say he's a good friend and it'll take your brother a while probably but he'll leave you alone eventually.
Please of course, take it SLOW with this boyfriend, there is no rush for anything....start with friendship and see how it goes....
As for his birthday - how about a cake? They say the way to a man's heart is through his stomach? ;-)) Or, you could invite him to lunch or something small? I don't think there's any need to buy him a big gift though as you only just started out...
Hope it works out! :)

Aww my parents are kind of like that too. My sister is 16 and we're two years apart. I am ALWAYS covering for her. And as awful as it seems to lie to your parents, it has really developed into a stronger relationship between me and my sister. We've got eachother's backs now. Just don't keep your brother in the dark. Tell him and ask him to keep it a secret for you. If you and your brother are as tight as you say you are, he won't bust you, knowing that some day you'll probably end up covering for him. Trust, truth, and sticking to the same story. Trust your brother and let him trust you. Tell him the truth- he'll be more understanding if he really knows whats going on. And sticking to your story... get a story, stick to it, and stay on the same page. As bad as this sounds, if you're going to lie to your parents and not get caught, you need to have the same story.
Thats what siblings are for, right?

I hope this helps. The answer to your problem is deny, deny deny!!! How can your brother prove that this guy is your boyfriend?? As long as you don't get caught doing anything romantic ( kissing or sex??) then you should be ok. Just tell your brother and your dad that he is just a friend or some kid you are tutoring. It is your word against your brother's.

Well first of all, if you aren't allowed to date, then you probably shouldn't. But as far as the birthday thing--he's a guy and if his b-day already has passed, then you aren't under any pressure to get him anything. I doubt he would expect anything

why don't you buy him a toy...you're 12! what are you doing having a "boyfriend"?
set up a group of friends and some chaperones to go skating or bowling if you want to celebrate his b-day...
