honestly, no...

at least not in the same light as lee, norris and even chan for that matter..

yes in the 80's even the 90's he had great movies, full of action, aikido and slapping hands.. it was a beautiful ride.. the problem with segal is that he didn't stop when he was ahead..

looking back at glimmer man things started going down hill.. he was a lone rangers so to speak, never needing a partner, a one man army.. but they all start to get old.. same story different locale.. once he started changing his image to conform to the jackie chan, jet li style of martial arts action films, he began to loose credibility.. a downward spiral so to speak.. ask any actor, once you go from sell out, blockbuster opening nights to straight to video.. somethings a miss...

if he had stuck with his old persona, he would've gone down as one of the fearless, martial arts icons, a cop with a big gun, bad moves and an attitude to match..

now he's just another has been martial arts action star making b-movies (that's being kind) and going straight to video, where only the most die hard of fans (those 12) rent them..

it's sad and unfortunate.. but who knows, maybe someday a script will come along and revive his slow running, dead staring, hoarse talking, tough cop character once again.. and
i for one would love to see it.. i love the old segal movies, my fave being under seige 2.. hey how about an under seige 3.. ?

but that's just my opinion

Years ago watching his early films I was astounded. "Wow what martial art is that??" And I found it was Aikido and started studying it. He is a 7th degree black belt and had his own dojo. I dont think he will ever be as big as Bruce Lee though. Bruce Lee will be forevered remember because he died young and didnt have the time to make bad career moves :). Lately I have not been impressed with Segal's movies. They are poorly made and he doesnt really do martial arts anymore. Its kind of sad. He is also involved in his own blues band and also sells aroma oils on the side. Check for Steven Seagals old footage and if you can find "Path beyond thought" a biography of him in his aikido days. Very powerful martial artist... he was astounishing and had figured out the subtle moves to manipulate attackers.

Yes he will. Steven Segal, besides Bruce Lee and maybe Tony Jaa is the most proficent martial artist I can think of that has ever done movies. If you research his biography you will find that he is HIGHLY trained in karate and even more so in Akido. His early movies were big successes and noone will ever forget Under Siege, a great movie.

His first few movies were great. Now he dosen't do anything. Most of it isn't even him. I truly enjoyed Segal's early stuff. I respect his ability as an Akidoist but not as a movie star. He sold out in movies and they are now crap. Above the Law was his first and best. Out of the bazillion movies he has out I think that only a hand full are even worthy of being real movies. I want to see Segal Sensei in a movie like Above the Law, were there is alot of action and he really does it.

Steven Segal is good but Bruce Lee and Jackie Chan are better. And they will be remembered longer. When I took martial arts, there was no one better than Bruce Lee. He made martial arts look easy, exciting and glamourous. Hope this answers your question.

By a long way its Enter the Dragon....Yes the performing is hillarious, however the choreography of the battle scenes via Bruce Lee are mighty. If you desire to peer how quick he truthfully used to be, gradual down probably the most battle scenes and spot simply how quick his punches and kicks have been. A very younger Bolo Yeung is featured (the huge fighter who John Saxon defeats) - he might later be the unhealthy man in John Claude Van Damme's crappy Bloodsport. All of Lee's films characteristic splendid martial arts motion, despite the fact that the performing isn't the pleasant. Chinese Connection (also known as Fist of Fury) is splendid, as is the final side of Game of Death (Lee as opposed to Kareem - useful!). Of direction, Bruce Lee is the finest martial arts film superstar - his charasma and display presence, crowned via fantastic martial arts capacity made him special - and who is aware of what he might have performed had he lived and made extra then five movies (plus the incomplete Game of Death). Number two movie I might placed is The Octagon with Chuck Norris. The final 3rd of the film is only a splendid lengthy battle series, finishing with Norris as opposed to Japanese grasp Tadashi Yamashita. I'd additionally suggest Return of the Dragon, providing a first-class battle series among Norris and Bruce Lee within the Colosseum in Rome. three. Jackie Chan - the grasp of comedy and martial arts - watch the Police Story sequence, Super Cop and The Legend of Drunken Master four. Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon - a first-class movie. a few splendid sequences concerning prime twine and mighty digital camera paintings. five. Jet Li - dynamic superstar - assess out Shaolin Temple (his first movie, while he used to be Wu Shu champion) and Fist of Legend (his pleasant movie - a remake of Bruce Lee's Chinese Connection) 6. Shaolin Master Killer - staring Gordon Liu - that is the free tale of the origins of Kung Fu - motion via the truckload. 7. Seven Samurai - Kurasowa's masterpiece approximately the Japanese warriors - it is a first-class film that stimulated the Magnificent Seven - and has one of the most finest motion series while the Seven defenders look after the village from forty bandits Ill provide a few credit score to Sagal - sure his performing is picket, however he does do a well task for an Akido grasp - an artwork sort that doesn't translate good to the display... and sure, Billy Jack films are liberal tripe, however furnish a few enjoyable battle scenes.. Just my humble opinion.

My problem with Steven Segal is that he makes so many B movies now that you really can't take him serious. When he first came out he was different from the rest. Now he tries to do what others do.

I would not consider him a major pioneer. But he is one of VERY few true martial artists to get into film. He might be remembered, but if he keeps making crap, he'll be forgotten about.

Only if they make him a guest performer on American Idol. Then maybe he'll make a huge showbiz comeback and become a multi platinum awarded blues singer. He already has a closet full of costumes for it.
