The Trilogy "The Comedy" (Inferno, Purgatory, & Paridise) was written about the love Dante had for a woman.

It's not about Hell, Purgatory, and Heaven ... but rather the different emotions connecting with his love for a woman and political unspeakables of the times that Dante was alive.

Dante wrote literature. He wasn't claiming it as fact.

Claims in the Bible are generally understood to be relevatory, but the Bible doesn't give a lot of description of Hell. Images of Hell have changed over the centuries, influenced by culture (including literature). There are many Renaissance depictions of the devil as being blue from cold, because he was distant from the divine fire of God, for example. If you believe in Hell, does it matter what it looks like? Is freezing for eternity less scaring than burning?

He didn't. He made it up. No one knows anything about the afterlife, even if there is one at all.
