Do you know the name of the alter you are seeking? If so, use it. Although the personality in control of the body may not easily reliquish executive control immediately, if you speak directly to the alter you are trying to reach-either by name or by description if you do not know the name-that part you seek will hear and most likely will respond. I have alters who I seek to speak with refuse to come out or answer me, but one thing I can tell you is that they will hear you if you speak to them by name. They can choose to ignore you and sometimes they are not able to gain control from the part in charge-but keep talking as they hear you and if you are persistent and persuasive they will likely come out. Also, if you know what alter is the ISH (Internal Self Helper) and there is one ( there isn't in every multiple system) they will assist you. The ISH knows and communicates with all parts and has complete memory and history across parts, but rarely interacts with outsiders unless you've managed to establish a relationship.

Also, bear in mind that most "destructive" alters are actually protectors, so do not alienate that part or any other part or you will be unable to achieve any good results and the system will buck you at every turn. All alters are critical and essential-don't play favorites.

I had a friend like this, for 12 years. She was my best friend. But she refused to seek any help and she refused to take any loving help from me. She would switch at the drop of a dime. Ultimatel we are not friends anymore. It's sad and I miss her very much. But at some point it became very obvious that she did not posess the desire to improve her life. I could not stand by and watch her self destruct anymore. Maybe that's what you have to do. Sometimes you have to love someone enough to let them go. I hear she is doing well now. She has gotten married and has a baby....seems like everything is under control. Maybe that's what it took for her. But that was something I couldn't give her.

Yes try the old fashion controls like the stocks for a weekend at a Wicca camp out. You are the one in danger here. Leaders often use bad methods to control their friends. You are a good type to practice on . The outsiders often are so weak socially they need friends. Learn the social rules and you wont need that kind of leader again.

A good friend had "multiple personalities," a condition now called Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID). I was never able to "control" who I was talking to, but his therapist was. I would leave it to the professions.

first, he needs to get help to merge the personalities. I've read that you can call a personality and it will come forward. ask if there's another personality that can help him come forward.

Psychologists are split on whether split personalities even exist. Your friend should see a professional to determine what's going on.
