It felt weird being the one to ask her questions but it felt kinda nice to hear that she had been through a lot of stuff but she had made it through it. Has anyone had this experience with their therapist? How did you feel about it?

yeah I had done that with mine. it does feel weird but at the same time feels good that you aren't the one spilling your guts. life is full of ups and downs and some how we fall we get up and we stand. I don't know if you see a therapist for depression but I've been dealing with it since I was 12, 23 now. it's definatley different to be the one asking the questions. but it helps in a weird way. good luck.

Interesting - did she ask you if you wanted to ask, or did you ask if you could ask.

What she did is called disclosure. Many counselors believe it is inappropriate to disclose; some believe in limited disclosure like "I had depression when I was 30, but therapy helped me overcome it;" I have never heard of a therapist who let the client ask whatever questions she wanted.

Frankly when I interview someone for therapy, they had better be willing to answer that sort of question. I won't trust them if they don't, and you have to trust your therapist or what is the point?
