Cymbalta is not an SSRI. The SSRI group of anti depressants are Prozac, Celexa/Citalopram, Paxil, Lexapro, Zoloft.

Cymbalta is an SNRI, because it works on both serotonin and also another neurotransmitter; it is a newer anti depressant and is prescribed for major depressive disorders as well as less severe problems.

If you check the leaflet that comes with your Cymbalta, it will tell you whether it's OK to take it while hoping to become pregnant. If it doesn't make it clear, you should check with your doctor. Some anti depressants have been around for longer than this one and more may be known about their effects on pregnancy. Don't just stop taking it, though, if you are going to come off it, decrease your dose slowly and with advice from your doctor, or you may feel awful for a bit!

SSRI is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor. Basically meaning that when serotonin is released in the brain it is released from a synapse and there is some difficulty in it crossing the post-synaptic cleft and being abosrbed into the next synapse. This causes the serotonin to be reabsorbed by the releasing synaptic cleft. This reabsorption thereby prevents the serotonin from moving on, and this depletion is one of the causes of chemical depression. The SSRI prevents the serotonin from being reabsorbed into the pre-synaptic cleft, therefore it rests in the cleft longer allowing it time to be absorbed into the next synapse.

I don't have my med-reference book with me so I don't know the efects on pregnancy offhand, but if you want to email me i would be happy to look it up.

Lexapro is without doubt one of the few Antidepressants that input the blood circulate extra quickly. I too am on Lexapro and I questioned the identical factor. Though I began feeling the lucrative results inside the week, it did take approximately four-6 weeks earlier than my frame had wholly acclimated to the drug and I stopped with all of the bizarre aspect results like yawning always. Your great guess is to attend two months earlier than figuring out whether it is some thing you'll reside with. I desired to quit the 3rd week considering the fact that I felt like I was once popping out of my dermis, however now I am grateful day-to-day I took it. The four-6 weeks of hell is a far off reminiscence and I think like my ancient self once more.
