Im a 23/f who is in good shape, I lift weights and do cardio at least 4 days a week. I weight 133. How many calories should I be consuming a day if I have a decent amount of excess weight, and want to get down to about 125?

Well, is your "excess weight" fat or muscle in your opinion? My reason for asking is, sometimes, people can weigh more than they'd like to, but they're not "out of shape". It sounds like you would be in pretty good shape if you work out like you say you do. And, how tall are you? If you're under, lets say, 5'5", then maybe you could lose the weight, but if not, it's going to be hard.
You will need to consume at LEAST 1200 calories a day just to get by. That's without working out. If you are working out, then you'll need more.
I would say a safe bet would be about 1500 calories in your case. That should be enough to give you the energy your body needs to get through workouts and get through the day, and still enable your body to burn more than you take in SAFELY. ;-)

Good luck!

The first thing you may want to do is determine how much you're currently taking in. That way when you check one of the many charts or calculators you don't actually increase your intake.

Keep a record of everything you eat for a month. Be diligent and honest. And then decrease it a little by removing as many unhealthy calories as you're comfortable with. Don't try to lose too fast and don't go crazy with reducing calories. You want to find a healthy way of eating that you can stick to for the rest of your life not just for a few pounds.

enter "daily calorie intake calculator" on yahoo search and it will give you several sites - check out a few because they might vary a little bit. If you get number to maintain your weight then take off 300-400cal that number and thats how many you need for losing.
