Back at the start of the running boom in the late 70's, there were people who said that women who ran were in danger of "having their uterus fall out". A female friend of mine remarked that every time she raced she was looking for one that had fallen out because hers was shot after 3 kids and she could use a new one. She said she never did find one.

I guess the cons are keeping healthy, keeping to a good weight easily, having something you enjoy, keeping nicely toned... quite a lot actually, or are they pros?
I think its probably jealousy, fit healthy women are more likely to be competition than an overweight unhealthy women, just my guess. I guess that'ld only be from women though, men would probably encourage you...
Also envy that your able to do something they can't I guess, so they belittle it. If they could run long distance they'ld be saying how great it is, but rather than accepting they're fat and lazy (unless they're your friends then I'm sure they're very good weight and active) they';ll just pretend they wouldn't want to do it anyway.
Its basic human nature and is really a sign of their own insecurities, like where in a group where everyone can do something except one person that person will start to pretend he doesn't want to, asking why anyone would want to because its pointless etc. Try and get them to join you, drop hints of how great it is, how easy it is if you start out small (basically lie) etc.

I have found that many people are just negative. It doesn't matter what you do or want to do there are people who have something bad to say about it. As long as you enjoy something and it does not harm you or someone else then it doesn't matter what others think. I know some people are jealous. They want everyone to do what they do or do nothing at all. They want you to look healthy, the definition of healthy is over weight like most people. I never try to talk people into running if they are against it and I don't worry about the things they say about running or exercise. Enjoy yourself and be happy with who you are and what you do.

I'm thinking it has to do with their own abilities. I love running, it makes me feel prepared, like a warrior. Plus, have you ever seen a fat runner? That keeps me going even when its raining or my body says no. No judgement, but I don't want to be fat. Peace.

Lazy? I'm just kidding. I think that when you are not in great shape it helps to start out with walking and work your way up to running. I enjoy walking more these day; running is hard on my knees.

I think people are sexist and they're probably jealous of the awesome body we long distance runners have and how we're such in good shape and how we can eat almost anything coz we're cool like that.
keep runnin'!
